Gray visiting Motzkins

We present the first Gray code for Motzkin words and their generalizations: k colored Motzkin words and Schroder words. The construction of these Gray codes is based on the observation that a k colored Motzkin word is the shuffle of a Dyck word by a k-ary variation on a trajectory which is a combination. In the final part of the paper we give some algorithmic considerations and other possible applications of the techniques introduced here.

Chromoendoscopy: What Is Its True Value for Ulcerative Colitis Surveillance?

Advanced imaging technologies are enabling targeted biopsies or endoscopic resections due to better visualization of the mucosal architecture. This new concept of ‘smart biopsies’ is in particular important for patients with higher risk for development cancer (e.g. ulcerative colitis) but can also be beneficial for screening purposes. This short review will focus on new imaging modalities like chromoendoscopy, digital chromoendoscopy, high-definition endoscopy and confocal laser endomicroscopy in the lower GI tract which will be crucial in the future to detect colorectal neoplasia earlier then before.

In this paper, we present an innovative cyber physical system for indoor and outdoor localization and navigation, based on the joint utilization of dead-reckoning and computer vision techniques on a smartphone-centric tracking system. Colon cancer comprises a small population of cancer initiating stem cells (CIC) that is responsible for tumor maintenance and resistance to anti-cancer therapies, possibly allowing for tumor recapitulation once treatment stops. Combinations of immune-based therapies with chemotherapy and other anti-tumor agents may be of significant clinical benefit in the treatment of colon cancer. However, cellular immune-based therapies have not been experimented yet in the population of colon CICs. γδ T cells as a potential tool in colon cancer immunotherapy

γδ T cells are capable of recognizing tumor cells and exert potent cellular cytotoxicity against a large range of tumors, including colon cancer. However, tumors utilize numerous strategies to escape recognition or killing by patrolling γδ T cells, such a downregulation of NKG2D ligands, MICA/B and ULBPs. Therefore, the combined upregulation of T-cell receptorand NKG2D ligands on tumor cells and induction of NKG2D expression on γδ T cells may greatly enhance tumor killing and unlock the functions of γδ T cells. Resveratrol, a chemopreventive agent, disrupts the cell cycle control of human SW480 colorectal tumor cells

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenolic compound produced by a number of plants and found in high amount in peanuts, seeds, grapes or berries as source of human nutrition. Epidemiological studies strongly suggest that resveratrol may act as a cancer chemopreventive compound. The mechanism by which resveratrol inhibits cell proliferation was studied in human colorectal tumor SW480 cell line. The results show that resveratrol strongly inhibits cell proliferation at the micromolar range in a time- and dose-dependent manner.
