Next-to-next-to-leading order N -jettiness soft function for one massive colored particle production at hadron colliders

2017

The $N$-jettiness subtraction has proven to be an efficient method to perform differential QCD next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculations in the last few years. One important ingredient of this method is the NNLO soft function. We calculate this soft function for one massive colored particle production at hadron colliders. We select the color octet and color triplet cases to present the final results. We also discuss its application in NLO and NNLO differential calculations.

Probabilities in nonorthogonal basis: Four--quark systems

2009

Four-quark states may exist as colorless meson-meson molecules or compact systems with two-body colored components. We derive an analytical procedure to expand an arbitrary four-quark wave function in terms of nonorthogonal color singlet-singlet vectors. Using this expansion we develop the necessary formalism to evaluate the probability of physical components with an arbitrary four-quark wave function. Its application to characterize bound and unbound four-quark states as meson-meson, molecular, or compact systems is discussed

Role of the colored noise in a FitzHugh-Nagumo system driven by a periodic signal

2007

During these last years the interest in neuronal dynamics increased. The study of this kind of system has been carried out by using the FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) model that is a simplified modification of the Hodgkin-Huxley model. Many interesting phenomena can be observed in the presence of fluctuations: modification of detection threshold by manipulation of noisy parameters (FHN model), noise-induced activation and coeherence resonance for suitable noise amplitude (absence of periodic signal), resonant activation for high periodic signals and noise reduction, intrinsic stochastic resonance (ISR) in Hodgkin-Huxley neuron and the enhancement of a weak signal by tuning the subthreshold intrinsic…

Revisiting the disappearance of terrestrial dissolved organic matter in the ocean: a <i>δ</i>13&lt…

2014

Abstract. Organic carbon (OC) depleted in 13C is a widely used tracer for terrestrial organic matter (OM) in aquatic systems. Photochemical reactions can, however, change δ13C of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) when chromophoric, aromatic-rich terrestrial OC is selectively mineralized. We assessed the robustness of the δ13C signature of DOC (δ13CDOC) as a tracer for terrestrial OM by estimating its change during the photobleaching of chromophoric DOM (CDOM) from 10 large rivers. These rivers cumulatively account for approximately one-third of the world's freshwater discharge to the global ocean. Photobleaching of CDOM by simulated solar radiation was associated with the photochemical mineral…

Role of terrestrial carbon in aquatic UV exposure and photoprotective pigmentation of meiofauna in subarctic lakes

2015

Summary Aquatic organisms are adversely influenced by ultraviolet radiation (UV) and utilise photoprotective strategies, including pigmentation. We examined UV-protective melanin pigmentation of aquatic meiofauna (Cladocera) in relation to the UV exposure across 25 tree line lakes in Finland to address the potential effects of increased UV and altered input of UV-screening terrestrial dissolved organic carbon (DOC) on aquatic organisms. Bio-optical parameters, including concentration of DOC, the coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM) fraction, a suite of carbon quality indices and chlorophyll a, were analysed from lake water, and their role in controlling underwater UV environment (measur…

Noise contribution to resonance phenomena and information propagation in non linear electronic networks

2015

This manuscript presents research aiming to show possible positive effects of deterministic and stochastic perturbations on the responses of different nonlinear systems. To that end, both numerical and experimental studies were carried out on two kinds of structures : an elementary electronic FitzHugh-Nagumo oscillator and an electrical line developed by resistively coupling 45 elementary cells. In the first section, the elementary cell characterization was undertaken in a deterministic regime. In the presence of a bichromatic stimulus, it is shown that when the low frequency component is subthreshold, its detection can be maximized for an optimal magnitude of the second component thanks to…

An optical classification tool for global lake waters

2017

Shallow and deep lakes receive and recycle organic and inorganic substances from within the confines of these lakes, their watershed and beyond. Hence, a large range in absorption and scattering and extreme differences in optical variability can be found between and within global lakes. This poses a challenge for atmospheric correction and bio-optical algorithms applied to optical remote sensing for water quality monitoring applications. To optimize these applications for the wide variety of lake optical conditions, we adapted a spectral classification scheme based on the concept of optical water types. The optical water types were defined through a cluster analysis of in situ hyperspectral…

Direct Writing on Copper Ion Doped Silica Films by Electrogeneration of Metallic Microstructures

2017

International audience; A facile and rapid localized electrochemical reduction of colloid copper particles is proposed using the scanning electrochemical, microscope (SECM), technique. In this purpose, thin films of composite silica :glass containing copper salts were prepared by the sol-gel method via the dip coating technique. Acid-catalyzed tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS) solutions charged with copper nitrate were used as precursors. This one-pot experiment can be performed in mild conditions. The localized generation of copper metallic nanostructures on silica film has been performed by electroreduction of methyl viologen on an ultramicroelectrode (UME). The UME generates reducing species, …

Simultaneous Color Contrast in Goldfish— a Quantitative Study

1997

AbstractA set of 9–15 colored test fields was presented to goldfish. In Experiment 1, test field hues ranged from green through yellow to red; in Experiment 2, the hues varied from blue through gray to yellow. In the training conditions, the test fields were presented with a gray or black surround. The fish learned to choose one intermediate test field hue by rewarding them with food. In the test conditions, the color of the surround was changed from gray to green, or red (Experiment 1), and from black to blue, or yellow (Experiment 2). The choice behavior of the goldfish changed substantially: one of the test fields other than the training test field was preferred. Direction and strength o…

<title>Stereoacuity determination at changing contrast of colored stereostimuli</title>

2003

Studies are focused on design and appraisal of an objective test for assessment of the stereovision quality in unfavorable conditions. Stereostimuli of different colors are used while the contrast of one of the stimulus being varied. Tests are based on principles of black-and-white and two primary color random dot stereotests. Experiments are divided by the method of stimuli display and separation: 1) stereoeffect is obtained haploscopically - by use of spectacles with color filters (blue and red) or prisms, 2) stimuli separation is obtained by liquid crystal shutters when both eye stimuli are demonstrated with a different delay. The stereovision threshold is determiend at different stimuli…
