Towards a physically more active lifestyle based on one's own values: study design of a randomized controlled trial for physically inactive adults

2013

Background This randomised controlled trial demonstrates the effectiveness of a value-based intervention program to encourage a physically more active lifestyle among physically inactive adults aged 30 to 50 years. The conceptual framework of the program is based on an innovative behavioural therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that aims to increase an individual’s psychological flexibility and support behaviour change towards a higher quality and more meaningful life. Methods Participants will be randomly allocated to a feedback group (FB) or an Acceptance and Commitment based (ACT + FB) group. Both the groups will receive written feedback about their objectively measured…

Effects of lifestyle and diet as modifiers of risk of breast cancer (BC) in BRCA1 and BRCA2 carriers.

2017

1505 Background: Mutations in the BRCA1/2 genes confer a high lifetime risk of BC. Penetrance varies among populations and individuals suggesting that non-genetic factors may modify the inherited risk. Knowledge of modifiable factors will help to develop preventive strategies. Methods: Information on physical activity (PA) (current PA and in the adolescence) and smoking was collected in 892 women (W) with a BRCA1/BRCA2 germ-line mutation (582 with BC, 45,62% BRCA2) from 279 families, followed at three Spanish Genetic Counseling Units, 481of these W also answered a food frequency questionnaire. Participants gave their consent and the study was approved by the ethics committee. The associati…

Individual differences in processes of lifestyle changes among people with obesity: an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) intervention in a prim…

2020

Abstract Aim: To explore what thoughts, feelings, and learning processes were involved in obese participants’ lifestyle change during an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) lifestyle intervention delivered in primary health care. Background: Previous studies have revealed that lifestyle interventions are effective at promoting initial weight loss, but reduced weight is often difficult to sustain because of the failure to maintain healthy lifestyle changes. Achieving and maintaining lifestyle changes requires to learn self-regulation skills. ACT-based lifestyle interventions combine many self-regulatory skill factors, and the results from previous studies are promising. Research on the i…

A Model of Goal Dynamics in Organizations: Goal Setting, Goal Commitment, Training and Management by Objectives

2009

The purpose of the present work is to build a suitable system dynamics model for goal dynamics in organizations, as proposed by Barlas & Yasarcan (2008). The proposed model does not bear any ambition of being exhaustive: the main objective of this paper is to propose a model of goal dynamics in which Goal Setting, Management by Objectives and Training are viewed as human resource practices able to enhance workers’ goal commitment, and therefore, improve organizational performance. A causal loop and a quantitative model of goal dynamics in organizations are described. A base run and 4 different scenarios are provided. Limitations of the present research and conclusions are finally discussed.…

I Gonzaga fuori Mantova : architettura, relazioni, potere

2022

On the role of internationalization of firm-level corporate governance: The case of audit committees

2022

Research Question/IssueMotivated by the agency theory and the findings of linguistic studies, we analyze the association between the internationalization of a firm's audit committee and its corporate governance.Research Findings/InsightsBased on data from 2159 publicly traded European firms from 15 countries for the period 2000–2018, we find that firms with foreign directors on their audit committees are associated with lower financial reporting quality. The association is mitigated by stronger country-level investor protection and a higher similarity among intra-committee languages. We further find that foreign directors on the audit committee are related to stock prices being less informa…

Integration Through Participation Introductory Notes to the Study of Administrative Integration

2002

When aiming at studying the interconnectedness of administrative systems - and in particular the integration of domestic governance systems and the institutions of the European Union - at least two variables are important to address: (i) the intensity and frequency of cross-level interaction and participation amongst the members of these systems, and (ii) the principles of organization being uppermost at both levels of governance. This article argues that in order to measure administrative integration, particular emphasis should be attached to the way these variables impact upon the organization members individually. Put more precisely, I argue that studies of administrative integration sho…

Procedure and Debate in the British Parliamentary Culture

2016

Haapala illuminates the relationship between procedure and debate in the British parliamentary culture that was formed during the nineteenth century. While emphasising the constitutional shift to parliamentary government after the passing of the 1832 Reform Act, the chapter demonstrates its effects on the parliamentary culture with a special focus on the increasing role of debate and the attempts to reform House of Commons’ procedures. As well as drawing attention to the publicity of parliamentary proceedings and professionalisation of political journalism, Haapala uses rhetorical treatises and manuals to show the common attitudes towards parliamentary debate before and after the institutio…
