The Microbiome Studies in Metabolic Diseases have Advanced but are Poorly Standardized and Lack a Mechanistic Perspective
2015

During the last decades hundreds of studies have reported the association of Gut Microbiota (GM) with obesity and related metabolic disorders [1]. However, recently the microbiome studies were criticized about the lack of skepticism [2]. The author of the article questioned the role of GM in different diseases and asked whether the detected differences between the subjects biologically matter? We do believe that the role of…
Smart city dvelopment with digital twin technology
2020
Growing urban areas are major consumers of natural resources, energy and raw materials. Understanding cities´ urban metabolism is salient when developing sustainable and resilient cities. This paper addresses concepts of smart city and digital twin technology as means to foster more sustainable urban development. Smart city has globally been well adopted concept in urban development. With smart city development cities aim to optimize overall performance of the city, its infrastructures, processes and services, but also to improve socio-economic wellbeing. Dynamic digital twins are constituted to form real-time connectivity between virtual and physical objects. Digital twin combines virtual …
Coupling Proteomics and Fermentation Technology for the Improvement of Bioactive Molecule Production Yield in Actinomycetes

Most bioactive molecules (like anticancers, antitumors, antibiotics, immunosuppressants, insecticidals, antivirals, herbicidals, antifungals) with valuable industrial and market value are naturally produced by actinomycetes [1-4], Gram-positive filamentous bacteria widespread in both terrestrial and aquatic environments [5,6]. Out of thousands of bioactive molecules, also known as secondary metabolites since they are not essential for…
Knowledge behaviors when the commons are at stake: Insights from the Covid-19 crisis
2020
How do people’s beliefs on the likely system-level consequences of circulating a certain piece of knowledge influence those people’s knowledge behaviors? To address this question, we leverage the most recent developments of the theory of the commons as learning systems. According to this theory, people are strongly responsive to perceived threats to the commons they (may) benefit from, and strive to learn and respond accordingly. Through this theoretical lens, we analyze thick qualitative data (January-April 2020) from the Covid-19 crisis, which resulted in unprecedented visibility of commons-related knowledge behaviors. The contribution of this inductive study is fourfold. First, we identi…
Cose in comune e bene comune. L’ideologia della comunità in Italia nel tardo medioevo
2011
OGGETTIVAZIONE E STORICITÀ DEI BENI COMUNI
2017
The progress of the commons as main subject in social sciences and in public debate has caused a new focus on the genealogy of proprietorship and his ideology. Framing this ideology, for a long time individual proprietorship has been represented as opposite to discourses that justified collective resource management. However, looking at the past of juridical systems, it is possible to highlight several links between individual property rights and collective rights. In particular historical analysis reveals that the main conceptual tool for producing both individual and collective ownership consists in instituting the goods as «objects». Both individual ownership and common goods are the eff…
When the growth of the town produces gardens
2019
The metropolis is a mother of gardens (Migge, 1919): in the beginning of the twenty 113 century, Leberecht Migge understood that the housing reform of the Modern Movement was also the reform of the urban orchards that could expand in wide common spaces between the buildings. The parks, in which the towns finally could stay in, included a humanized nature, organized in productive and leisure areas. Migge’s envisagement of “Stadtland” had many affinities with the “Extending town” by Giuseppe Samonà based on the shape as single matrix of built and cultivated spaces (Samonà, 1976). Both architects, forty years from each other and in different places of work - Germany and Italy - considered ur…
Más allá de lo constituido. Lo común como hipótesis jurídico-constitucional
2021
2014
During the next EU programming, Italy will suggest to commit a substantial portion of the funds to the development of the inland areas. This will happen through a structured program that will interact, since its start-up, with the local subjects in order to combine and to bind the development with the territory. The maintenance of the territory together with the involvement of the local communities focus the attention on the management of the common goods. The debate is still open and the inland areas policy which is built up by the Department for Development and Economic Cohesion (formerly the Department for Development Policy and Cohesion) of the Ministry of Economic Development, does not…
