The traditional historiography of early modern state-building has usually followed the western European paradigm of historiography, the usual models being France, England, Brandenburg-Prussia and Sweden. Regions that do not follow this paradigm have simply been left out and labeled “backward” or as “lagging behind”. An important element in current historical research is the analysis of diplomatic relations focusing on the PolishLithuanian Commonwealth. They show the history of the Polish-Lithuanian state, its internal and foreign policy from a different historical perspective. In 1700, the Great Northern War broke out and changed the political power system in Central and Eastern Europe for the next decades. Diplomats from foreign courts were interested in this war, including Philippe Plantamour, secretary of the British embassy in Berlin. This chapter covers the twentieth century, when the Philippines were changed by the US colonization after a brutal war of conquest. W pierwszych dwóch dekadach XVIII w. dokonał się proces modernizacji wojskowości polsko-litewskiej. Przede wszystkim unowocześniono wyposażenie oddziałów dragonii i piechoty wprowadzając do uzbrojenia karabiny skałkowe (flint lock), wzorowane na armii saskiej pałasze i szpady, jednolite sorty mundurów, a także sprzęt „obozowy”. Ustanowiono także nowe schematy organizacyjne regimentów piechoty. The article discusses source materials for history o f Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Dietines, found in archival legacy o f Ludwig Gruno, Prince o f Hesse-Homburg. The documents are part o f field chancellery o f the prince, currently preserved in the Military-Historical Museum of Engineer and Signal Corps in St. Petersburg among over a thousand of letters, documents and files illustrating his achievements as commander o f Russian armies in the Caucasus and Poland in 1732-1736. The documents pertain mostly to tsarist army exacting war tribute in form o f food and feed in South- Eastern voivodeships from autumn 1734 to 1736. 29 listopada 1662 r. zastrzelony został hetman polny litewski i jednocześnie podskarbi wielki litewski Wincenty Aleksander Korwin Gosiewski. Był on członkiem partii francuskiej i politycznie związał się z królową Ludwiką Marią Gonzagą. Z tego też powodu popierał plany elekcji vivente rege. The coronation parliament in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was always an exceptional event not only for the newly elected monarch but also for diplomats from foreign courts who reported about its proceedings. In their reports, they tried to provide as much information as possible, not only political but also moral, social, and related to the ceremony. Of course, such material needs careful analysis, as the diplomats, othen unfamiliar with the reality of the Polish-Lithuanian state, misrepresented the facts or presented them in a wrong context.
