‘My skin is hard’ - adult learners’ resistance to racialization and racism

This article analyzes experiences of racialization in stories of adult learners with refugee experience who attend a basic education program at a Finnish community college. Throughout a two-year ethnographic study, several students shared stories and thoughts on racialization and racism with the white researcher on site (the author). An analysis of the names derived from appellatives, allows for a reconstruction of the categorization methods of the world, anthropological conceptualization, and a popular image of reality. Community intervention in the “613 houses district” in Burjassot (Valencia) cannot be understood without the Escoles Esportives 613 Vivendes association. This association was set up in 1994 through the endeavours of social agents existing at the time in the district: 613 Housing Neighbourhood Association, the Manantial Association for Human and Cultural Promotion, and Burjassot’s basic team of municipal Social Services, as well as a group of young people who thought that one way to ensure the promotion of children in underprivileged neighbourhoods was through practising sports.

Examining the relationships between teacher self-efficacy, professional learning community, and experiential learning in Japan

This study investigated the relationships between professional learning communities (PLCs), teacher self-efficacy, and experiential learning. A conceptual model that connects PLC components, including shared vision, interactive reflection, and collegiality, to teacher self-efficacy was proposed, as mediated by experiential learning. The data comprised 3,604 teachers from 204 primary schools and 787 teachers from 90 lower secondary schools in Japan. Northern peatlands consist of a mosaic of peatland types that vary spatially and temporally and differ in their methane (CH4) production. Microbial community composition and environment both potentially control the processes that release carbon from anoxic peat either as CH4 or carbon dioxide (CO2), a less potent greenhouse gas than CH4. Upper Caraş River (Danube watershed) fish populations fragmentation – technical rehabilitation proposal

Abstract We propose a technical solution for fish movement based on the flow of water over a spill threshold. Such barriers are common in the Danube system. The proposed system has a range of operating components which are easily detachable from the spill threshold, are resistant to corrosion and will not harm the fish. In fact, if designed to complement swimming abilities of target fish, it should provide adequate passage for both adults and juveniles. If implemented correctly, the design may offer a solution to help displaced fish recolonize upstream habitats.
