Convolutional Neural Networks for the Identification of Regions of Interest in PET Scans: A Study of Representation Learning for Diagnosing Alzheimer…

When diagnosing patients suffering from dementia based on imaging data like PET scans, the identification of suitable predictive regions of interest (ROIs) is of great importance. We present a case study of 3-D Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for the detection of ROIs in this context, just using voxel data, without any knowledge given a priori. Our results on data from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) suggest that the predictive performance of the method is on par with that of state-of-the-art methods, with the additional benefit of potential insights into affected brain regions.

International audience; It has been suggested that a high intake of dietary fibre helps regulate energy intake and satiety. The present study aimed to examine whether dietary fibre influenced the liking and wanting components of the food reward system, the metabolic state or subsequent intake. Five sessions involving 32 normal-weight subjects (16 men and 16 women, 30.6 ± 7.6 year) were held. The sessions differed in the composition of the bread eaten during breakfasts (dietary fibre content varied from 2.4 to 12.8 g/100 g). Activity in the rabbit somatosensory cortex reflects the active procedural memory trace of a classically conditioned eyeblink response.

Behavioral responses and neural responses in the somatosensory cortex were recorded in nine rabbits during the unpaired and paired treatments of classical eyeblink conditioning with a tone conditioned stimulus (CS) and an airpuff unconditioned stimulus. During the unpaired treatment, neither the behavioral nor neural responses to the CS were observed. Observing animals and humans : dogs target their gaze to the biological information in natural scenes

Background This study examines how dogs observe images of natural scenes containing living creatures (wild animals, dogs and humans) recorded with eye gaze tracking. Because dogs have had limited exposure to wild animals in their lives, we also consider the natural novelty of the wild animal images for the dogs. The effectiveness of hypnosis for pain relief: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 85 controlled experimental trials.

The current meta-analysis aimed to quantify the effectiveness of hypnosis for reducing pain and identify factors that influence efficacy. Six major databases were systematically searched for trials comparing hypnotic inductions with no-intervention control conditions on pain ratings, threshold and tolerance using experimentally-evoked pain models in healthy participants. Eighty-five eligible studies (primarily crossover trials) were identified, consisting of 3632 participants (hypnosis n = 2892, control n = 2646).
