Attempt to Construct a Scale for the Measurement of the Effect of Suggestion on Perception1
1975
A scale based on experimental methods has been prepared for measuring the effects of indirect suggestion upon perception. Three categories are included: (1) distorting the interpretation of presented stimuli, (2) inducing sense-impressions in the absence of adequate stimuli, and (3) producing insensitivity to stimuli that are objectively present. Test situations were designed for tactual, auditory, and visual perception. The scale was tested on a sample of 112 students from the 11th and 12th grades of a large city high school (58 girls and 54 boys). Most of the item intercorrelations were positive and many significantly so. Eliminating the 9 lowest items of 21 left 12 for a reduced matrix,…

Ayuntamiento de Valencia (1940-1971) y su posterior transformación en Instituto Municipal de Orientación (1971-1981).ABSTRACTThe history of Spanish Educational and Vocational Guidance is now being made. This article, outcome of a careful historical research, sketches the role played by Mr. José Zaragozá Antich in the foundation, evolu…
The pallial amygdala of amniote vertebrates: evolution of the concept, evolution of the structure
2002
Embryological studies indicate that the amygdala includes pallial structures, namely the cortical amygdala (olfactory and vomeronasal) and the basolateral complex deep to it. In squamate reptiles, the cortical amygdala includes secondary olfactory (the ventral anterior amygdala) and vomeronasal centres (the nucleus sphericus). In birds, the situation is far less clear, due to the relative underdevelopment of the chemosensory systems. The basolateral amygdala of squamate reptiles includes two ventropallial structures: the posterior dorsal ventricular ridge and the lateral amygdala. Like their mammalian counterparts, these centres give rise to glutamatergic projections to the striatal (centro…
WWOX-related encephalopathies: delineation of the phenotypical spectrum and emerging genotype-phenotype correlation
2014
International audience; BACKGROUND:Homozygous mutations in WWOX were reported in eight individuals of two families with autosomal recessive spinocerebellar ataxia type 12 and in two siblings with infantile epileptic encephalopathy (IEE), including one who deceased prior to DNA sampling.METHODS:By combining array comparative genomic hybridisation, targeted Sanger sequencing and next generation sequencing, we identified five further patients from four families with IEE due to biallelic alterations of WWOX.RESULTS:We identified eight deleterious WWOX alleles consisting in four deletions, a four base-pair frameshifting deletion, one missense and two nonsense mutations. Genotype-phenotype correl…
Simple Sequence Repeat Marker Development and Mapping Targeted to Previously Unmapped Regions of the Strawberry Genome Sequence
2011
The genome sequence of the woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) is an important resource providing a reference for comparative genomics studies and future sequenced rosaceous species and has great utility as a model for the development of markers for mapping in the cultivated strawberry Fragaria ×ananassa Duchesne ex Rozier. A set of 152 microsatellite simple sequence repeat (SSR) primer pairs was developed and mapped, along with 42 previously published but unmapped SSRs, permitting the precise assignment of 28.2 Mbp of previously unanchored genome sequence scaffolds (13% of the F. vesca genome sequence). The original ordering of F. vesca sequence scaffolds was performed without a physic…
A comparative study on the dynamic response of three semisubmersible floating offshore wind turbines
2019
Abstract Currently, there is a great interest to globally develop offshore wind energy due to the greenhouse effect and energy crisis. Great efforts have been devoted to develop reliable floating offshore wind energy technology to exploit the wind energy resources in deep seas. This paper presents a comparative study of the dynamic response of three different semisubmersible floating wind turbine structures. All the three platforms support the same 5MW wind turbine. The platforms examined are: a V-shaped Semi, an OC4-DeepCwind Semi and a Braceless Semi at 200 m water depth. A dynamic analysis is carried out in order to calculate and compare the performance of these platforms. The comparison…
Genomic and Proteomic Analysis of Wine Yeasts
2011
Publisher Summary Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the main microorganism involved in wine fermentation. It has been used as a model organism in molecular biology for many years and is the only wine yeast species for which abundant genomic and proteomic information is available. Most of the techniques currently used in functional genomics and proteomics were initially developed in this yeast. The fact that S. cerevisiae was the first microorganism to be widely used in the development of genome technology allowed other phylogenetically related yeasts to be analyzed subsequently in global sequencing projects, and the use of comparative genomics has since led to important conclusions regarding gene…
Professional learning communities and teacher well‐being? A comparative analysis of primary schools in England and Finland
2009
The article is a comparative analysis of the policy and practice of professional learning communities (PLCs) in primary schools in England and Finland. The concept of PLC has become a globally fashionable one and has been explicitly advocated in policy documents in both countries. Drawing from a database of qualitative semi‐structured interviews with primary teachers, four key themes affecting their work and well‐being are identified: the primary school community; collaborative working; continuing professional development and trust and accountability. The realities of PLCs as experienced by primary teachers in each country are contrasted. Similarities in teachers’ responses were found, espe…
Positive parenting and parenting stress among working mothers in Finland, the UK and the Netherlands : Do working time patterns matter?
2017
This study explored the effects of working time patterns on positive parenting and parenting stress, and the moderating effects of working hours, the unpredictability of work schedules, and autonomy over working time in a European context. This cross-national survey study compared Finnish (n = 337), Dutch (n = 283) and British (n = 317) mothers with children under the age of 13, using structural equation modeling with a multigroup procedure. We found a connection between working time patterns and positive parenting but the nature of the connection differed between countries. In all three countries, no relationship was found between working time pattern and parenting stress, while unpredict…
