A characterization of strongly measurable Henstock-Kurzweil integrable functions and weakly continuous operators

2008

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the Kurzweil–Henstock integrability of functions given by f =n=1 xnχEn , where xn belong to a Banach space and the sets (En)n are measurable and pairwise disjoint. Also weakly completely continuous operators between Banach spaces are characterized by means of scalarly Kurzweil–Henstock integrable functions

On the K-stability of complete intersections in polarized manifolds

2011

We consider the problem of existence of constant scalar curvature Kaehler metrics on complete intersections of sections of vector bundles. In particular we give general formulas relating the Futaki invariant of such a manifold to the weight of sections defining it and to the Futaki invariant of the ambient manifold. As applications we give a new Mukai-Umemura-Tian like example of Fano 5-fold admitting no Kaehler-Einstein metric and a strong evidence of K-stability of complete intersections on Grassmannians.

Rational Design of Lanthanoid Single-Ion Magnets: Predictive Power of the Theoretical Models

2016

We report two new single‐ion magnets (SIMs) of a family of oxydiacetate lanthanide complexes with D3 symmetry to test the predictive capabilities of complete active space ab initio methods (CASSCF and CASPT2) and the semiempirical radial effective charge (REC) model. Comparison of the theoretical predictions of the energy levels, wave functions and magnetic properties with detailed spectroscopic and magnetic characterisation is used to critically discuss the limitations of these theoretical approaches. The need for spectroscopic information for a reliable description of the properties of lanthanide SIMs is emphasised. SPINMOL ERC-CoG-647301 DECRESIM MAT2014-56143-R CTQ2014-52758-P CTQ2011-2…

Breakdown in Multilateral Negotiations

2015

Abstract We analyze a complete information multilateral bargaining model in which a buyer is to purchase two complementary goods from two sellers. Binding cash-offer contracts are used to govern transactions. In contrast to preexisting literature, we do not normalize the parties' reservation utilities to zero. We show that this assumption holds critical importance by demonstrating that a complete breakdown of negotiations may occur as the unique equilibrium outcome, even if only two sellers are present.

Oncomiracidial development, survival and swimming behaviour of the monogenean Sparicotyle chrysophrii (Van Beneden and Hesse, 1863)

2012

Abstract Oncomiracidial development of Sparicotyle chrysophrii , a monogenean parasite of Sparus aurata , was analysed using 450 eggs. Parasite morphological changes in time, data on hatching success, as well as oncomiracidial survival and swimming behaviour were recorded. Eggs were maintained at 20 °C and exposed to LD 12:12. They were observed under the stereomicroscope every 8 h until they hatched. Thereafter, 155 oncomiracidia were isolated in separate wells and observed every 2 h until their death. Most of the hatchings occurred in a short period of time (approximately 24 h). Hatching success was 87% and the hatching period ranged from 5 to 10 days after deposition, with most of the ha…

Complete vocal technique laulunopetuksen välineenä

2013

Tutkin kandidaatintutkielmassani laulutekniikkaa nimeltään Complete vocal technique. Kandidaatintutkielmani alussa kerron tiivistetysti Complete vocal techniquen perusajatuksia. Tämän jälkeen siirryn vertailuosioon, jossa otan tarkasteluun pop/jazz-laulutekniikan sekä klassisen laulutekniikan yleisimpiä lauluteknisiä ajatuksia. Lisäksi tarkastelen myös vanhoj…

A characterization of the distribution of a weighted sum of gamma variables through multiple hypergeometric functions

2008

Applying the theory on multiple hypergeometric functions, the distribution of a weighted convolution of Gamma variables is characterized through explicit forms for the probability density function, the distribution function and the moments about the origin. The main results unify some previous contributions in the literature on nite convolution of Gamma distributions. We deal with computational aspects that arise from the representations in terms of multiple hypergeometric functions, introducing a new integral representation for the fourth Lauricella function F (n) D and its con uent form (n) 2 , suitable for numerical integration; some graphics of the probability density function and distr…

Solving Two-Person Zero-Sum Stochastic Games With Incomplete Information Using Learning Automata With Artificial Barriers

2021

Learning automata (LA) with artificially absorbing barriers was a completely new horizon of research in the 1980s (Oommen, 1986). These new machines yielded properties that were previously unknown. More recently, absorbing barriers have been introduced in continuous estimator algorithms so that the proofs could follow a martingale property, as opposed to monotonicity (Zhang et al., 2014), (Zhang et al., 2015). However, the applications of LA with artificial barriers are almost nonexistent. In that regard, this article is pioneering in that it provides effective and accurate solutions to an extremely complex application domain, namely that of solving two-person zero-sum stochastic games that…

Performability of Actions

2021

AbstractAction theory may be regarded as a theoretical foundation of AI, because it provides in a logically coherent way the principles of performing actions by agents. But, more importantly, action theory offers a formal ontology mainly based on set-theoretic constructs. This ontology isolates various types of actions as structured entities: atomic, sequential, compound, ordered, situational actions etc., and it is a solid and non-removable foundation of any rational activity. The paper is mainly concerned with a bunch of issues centered around the notion of performability of actions. It seems that the problem of performability of actions, though of basic importance for purely practical ap…

Is early recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma in HCV cirrhotic patients affected by treatment with direct-acting antivirals? A prospective multicen…

2017

SummaryBackground Data on HCV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) early recurrence in patients whose HCC was previously cured, and subsequently treated by direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), are equivocal. Aim To assess the risk of HCC early recurrence after DAAs exposure in a large prospective cohort of HCV-cirrhotic patients with previous successfully treated HCC, also looking for risk factors for cancer early recurrence. Methods We enrolled 143 consecutive patients with complete response after curative treatment of HCC, subsequently treated with DAAs and monitored by the web-based RESIST-HCV database. Clinical, biological, and virological data were collected. The primary endpoint was the…
