Operācijas laika ietekme uz apendektomijas rezultātu

2018

Kopsavilkums Nosaukums: Operācijas laika izvēles ietekme uz apendektomijas rezultātu Fons: Apendektomija ir viena no pasaulē visbiežāk veiktajām akūtajām ķirurģiskajām manipulācijām. Vēsturiski to veic nekavējoties un neatkarīgi no diennakts laika. Influence of Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique on Peri-Implant Tissues; Prospective Randomized Clinical Trial with Three-Year Follow-Up. Pa…

2019

Purpose: The objective of this prospective randomized clinical trial (RCT) was to analyze and compare the clinical behavior of three types of prosthesis supported by single implants in the posterior region after three years of functional loading. Materials and methods: Seventy-five implants were divided into three groups according to the type of prosthetic restoration: screw-retained crown (group GS); cemented crown without finishing line (biologically oriented preparation technique) (group GBOPT); and conventional cemented crown with finishing line (group GCC). After three years in function, clinical parameters (presence of keratinized mucosa, probing depths, bleeding on probing, and radio…

Does Hysteroscopic Dissection of Partial Uterine Septum Represent a Risk Factor for Placental Abnormalities in Subsequent Pregnancy Compared with Con…

2022

Background: Hysteroscopic septum dissection (HSD) is thought to improve fertility and pregnancy outcomes. However, the available literature suggests that uterine surgery can cause placental abnormalities in subsequent pregnancies. Methods: A case–control study was performed at the University Medical Center of Ljubljana, Department of Human Reproduction, from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2018. The primary outcome was the association between HSD and the occurrence of placental abnormalities. We included women who underwent HSD due to infertility. Age-matched women who underwent hysteroscopic surgery for other issues were considered as controls. In addition, we divided the groups according to…

Reproductive Dysfunction in Classical and Nonclassical Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Due to 21-Hydroxylase Deficiency

2021

Patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) both with severe (classical CAH) and mild (nonclassical NCAH) forms exhibit a wide spectrum of reproductive dysfunction. In this review, only CAH cases with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHd) will be discussed, as they represent almost all of the patients in reproductive clinical settings.

Minimally Invasive Video-Assisted Thyroidectomy: Analysis of Complications From a Systematic Review

2019

Background. Nowadays, minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVAT) is considered a safe and effective option. However, its complication rate has not been specifically discussed yet. The aim of this systematic review was enrolling a large number of studies to estimate early and late complications (transient and definitive, uni- and bilateral laryngeal nerve palsy; transient and definitive hypocalcemia; cervical hematoma; hypertrophic or keloid scar) of MIVAT compared with conventional technique. Methods. The review was performed according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) criteria in PubMed and Embase. Search terms were “minimally inva…

Promoting a Syndemic Approach for Cardiometabolic Disease Management During COVID-19: The CAPISCO International Expert Panel

2021

Efforts in the fight against COVID-19 are achieving success in many parts of the world, although progress remains slow in other regions. We believe that a syndemic approach needs to be adopted to address this pandemic given the strong apparent interplay between COVID-19, its related complications, and the socio-structural environment. We have assembled an international, multidisciplinary group of researchers and clinical practitioners to promote a novel syndemic approach to COVID-19: the CArdiometabolic Panel of International experts on Syndemic COvid-19 (CAPISCO). This geographically diverse group aims to facilitate collaborative-networking and scientific exchanges between researchers and …

PCOS Phenotypes: Impact on Fertility

2018

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterised by an extreme heterogeneity and at least four main phenotypes may be distinguished. In referred population, anovulatory hyperandrogenic phenotype (classic PCOS or phenotypes A and B) is by far the most common phenotype and presents the most severe endocrine and metabolic alterations. Ovulatory PCOS and normoandrogenic phenotype represent a mild form of PCOS that is more common in general population and/or (normoandrogenic) in some particular ethnic group. During their life, because of changes in lifestyle or because of spontaneous changes in ovarian and adrenal androgen secretion that occur during late reproductive age, patients may move fro…

Proteinuria-Microalbuminuria in Renal Damage

2015

Proteinuria (P) usually results from an insult in the glomerular and/or tubular structures of the kidney. It has been considered a marker of risk not only to develop renal insufficiency but also to suffer cardiovascular events, based on prospective studies carried out in the general population as well as in diabetic and hypertensive patients [1]. In fact, proteinuria has been considered a strong marker of risk and an intermediate endpoint during treatment [2, 3].

Receptor for advanced glycation end products is subjected to protein ectodomain shedding by metalloproteinases.

2008

The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a 55-kDa type I membrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Ligand-induced up-regulation of RAGE is involved in various pathophysiological processes, including late diabetic complications and Alzheimer disease. Application of recombinant soluble RAGE has been shown to block RAGE-mediated pathophysiological conditions. After expression of full-length RAGE in HEK cells we identified a 48-kDa soluble RAGE form (sRAGE) in the culture medium. This variant of RAGE is smaller than a 51-kDa soluble version derived from alternative splicing. The release of sRAGE can be induced by the phorbol ester PMA and the calcium ionophore c…
