Ionic transport and heat capacity of glass-forming metalnitrate mixtures

Abstract Ionic transport of the glass-forming metalnitrate mixtures [Ca(NO 3 ) 2 ] 0.44 [KNO 3 ] 0.56 (MKN), and [Mg(NO 3 ) 2 ] 0.44 [NaNO 3 ] 0.56 (MNN) was investigated near the glass transition using broadband spectroscopy of the complex conductivity to 300 MHz. The real part of the conductivity exhibits a transition from frequency independent to power law behavior as found in most ionic conductors. At high frequencies the frequency exponent approaches unity and becomes larger at low temperatures. In the real part of the dielectric constant, a relaxation step could be observed in CRN. Solvent induced single-crystal to single-crystal structural transformation and concomitant transmetalation in a 3D cationic Zn(II)-framework.

A 3D cationic Zn(II) framework, based on Zn2(CO2)4 paddle-wheel secondary building units (SBUs) and Zn16(CO2)32 polyhedral supramolecular building blocks (SBBs), has been synthesized. At room temperature, the framework undergoes guest solvent triggered reversible structural transformation and concomitant Zn(II) to Cu(II) transmetalation in a single-crystal to single-crystal fashion.

Effect of the Al/Si atomic ratio on surface and structural properties of sol-gel prepared aluminosilicates

Abstract A series of aluminosilicates with an Al/Si ratio ranging from 0 to ∞ (0 for pure silica and ∞ for pure alumina) was prepared by sol–gel process and characterized by surface and structure techniques. Aluminum tri sec butoxide and tetramethylorthosilicate were used as precursors for the sol–gel synthesis. The acidic properties of the oxides were studied by determination of the zero point charges, through mass titration method, and, for selected samples, by FT-IR spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine used as a probe for both Bronsted and Lewis acidity. Triplet exciplexes as energy transfer photosensitisers

Porous fractal gels: secondary effects in SEC

Abstract The fractal nature of porous silica gels, Spherosil XOA 200 and of a Lichrospher mixture, has been tested through size exclusion chromatography of polystyrene in pure and mixed eluents. Fractal parameters, D f and L , depend on eluent with D f values close to 2.0 for Spherosil and higher than 2.0 for Lichrospher. D f and L changes with eluent have been related to secondary separation effects and partition and adsorption contributions have been evaluated.

53 Human bio-monitoring of epoxy resins and hardeners in the production of rotor: blades

Introduction In a small company producing rotor blades for aviation from carbon composites, epoxy resins based on Novolac and isophorone diamine as hardener are used. Both compounds can be absorbed via skin contact and were shown to be strong skin sensitizers. As a part of risk assessment, the industrial physician prompted a biological monitoring to determine the internal exposure of the workers. Methods 6 workers were identified with potential contact to the hardener and resin. A new selective fluorogenic probe for trivalent cations.

[EN] A new selective chromo-fluorogenic probe for Fe 3+, Cr 3+ and Al 3+ is reported. Detection limits are in the ¿M range and the fluorogenic sensing ability could be observed by the naked eye when illuminated with UV-light. No response is observed with divalent cations. © 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Strong circularly polarized luminescence of an octahedral chromium(iii) complex

The chiral spin-flip luminophore [Cr(ddpd)2]3+ can be resolved into enantiopure material by chiral HPLC. The corresponding enantiomers show very high luminescence dissymmetry factors of up to ∣glum ∣≈ 0.093 in circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) measurements for the "ruby-like" phosphorescence transition 2E/2T1 → 4A2 in the near-IR region around λ ≈ 775 nm.
