Fracture of Honeycombs Produced by Additive Manufacturing

2022

Publisher Copyright: © 2021 World Scientific Publishing Europe Ltd. Lattice materials, such as honeycombs, are remarkable in their ability to combine high stiffness, strength and toughness at low density. In addition, the recent and pervasive development of additive manufacturing technologies makes it easier to produce these cellular materials and opens new possibilities to improve their properties by implementing small modifications to their microstructure. Such developments open new opportunities towards the design of new classes of architectured materials. For example, recent computational studies have shown that honeycombs with lattice density gradients have a fracture energy under tens…

Identification of hexanuclear Actinide(IV) carboxylates with Thorium, Uranium and Neptunium by EXAFS spectroscopy

2012

International audience; Hydrated actinide(IV) ions undergo hydrolysis and further polymerization and precipitation with increasing pH. The resulting amorphous and partly crystalline oxydydroxides AnO(n)(OH)(4-2n)center dot xH(2)O can usually be observed as colloids above the An(IV) solubility limit. The aging process of such colloids results in crystalline AnO(2). The presence of carboxylates in the solution prevents the occurrence of such colloids by formation of polynuclear complexes through a competing reaction between hydrolysis and ligation. The majority of recently described carboxylates reveals a hexanuclear core of [An(6)(mu(3)-O)(4)(mu(3)-OH)(4)](12+) terminated by 12 carboxylate l…

18 parameter deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 10 solutions of the NLS equation

2015

We present here new solutions of the focusing one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation which appear as deformations of the Peregrine breather of order 10 with 18 real parameters. With this method, we obtain new families of quasi-rational solutions of the NLS equation, and we obtain explicit quotients of polynomial of degree 110 in x and t by a product of an exponential depending on t. We construct new patterns of different types of rogue waves and recover the triangular configurations as well as rings and concentric rings as found for the lower-orders.

The Crosstalk of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ADSC), Oxidative Stress, and Inflammation in Protective and Adaptive Responses

2020

International audience; The potential use of stem cell-based therapies for the repair and regeneration of various tissues and organs is a major goal in repair medicine. Stem cells are classified by their potential to differentiate into functional cells. Compared with other sources, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have the advantage of being abundant and easy to obtain. ADSCs are considered to be tools for replacing, repairing, and regenerating dead or damaged cells. The capacity of ADSCs to maintain their properties depends on the balance of complex signals in their microenvironment. Their properties and the associated outcomes are in part regulated by reactive oxygen species, which medi…

Close-Range Photogrammetric Tools for Epigraphic Surveys

2016

In this article, we present a method to carry out a computerized epigraphic survey of historic stones and their engraved epigraphy. In fact, the preservation of archaeological objects has always been an issue of concern for the research community. On the one hand, the fragility of the objects limits their study. On the other hand, such objects are housed in museums, libraries, and institutions worldwide, locations that significantly limit their accessibility. Different survey methods have been carried out in these attempts to overcome the aforementioned limitations. Among them, the MicMac open source software was used in this work to survey and process the dense correlation of the hieroglyp…

Geostatistical computing of acoustic maps in the presence of barriers

2009

Acoustic maps are the main diagnostic tools used by authorities for addressing the growing problem of urban acoustic contamination. Geostatistics models phenomena with spatial variation, but restricted to homogeneous prediction regions. The presence of barriers such as buildings introduces discontinuities in prediction areas. In this paper we investigate how to incorporate information of a geographical nature into the process of geostatistical prediction. In addition, we study the use of a Cost-Based distance to quantify the correlation between locations.

A holistic perspective on the theoretical foundations for ICT4D research

2018

While many theories have guided research Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D), we are yet to construct a clear and coherent narrative that would help us answer the question of how ICT fosters development in underdeveloped communities. In this paper, we argue that one of the main reasons for this is that our holistic understanding of ICT4D is seldom grounded in theories to understand the core areas that define the field, namely, ICT, Development, and, ‘4’ which are the transformative processes that link the two. Through a brief literature review, we list theories that have informed ICT4D research in each of these areas. We present examples of theories, namely, C…

Determining the effects of Eugenol on the bond strength of resin-based restorative materials to dentin : a meta-analysis of the literature

2020

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3417/10/3/1070/htm Este artículo pertenece al número especial " Permanent and long-term biodegradable biomaterials". The aim of this study was to determine whether the residual presence of eugenol in coronal dentin may compromise the bond strength of resin-based restorative materials. A search was performed on MEDLINE/Pubmed, Scopus, and by hand search for relevant papers. No restriction was applied for language and publication date. The studies selected for analysis tested specimens with reduced size (micro-shear bond strength ( SBS) and micro-tensile bond strength ( TBS)) of adhesive systems and resin-bas…
