The UWB-OFDM Channel Analysis in Frequency

2009

In this paper, the ultra-wideband channel with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (UWB-OFDM) is analyzed in the frequency domain. For UWB-OFDM channels with log-normal fading in the time domain, we show that the amplitude of each subcarrier can be approximated by a Nakagami-m random variable, where the fading parameter, the mean power and the correlation coefficient are expressed in terms of the following parameters: time arrival of the clusters, inter-arrival time of rays inside clusters, and power decay constants of rays and clusters.

Beating the One-Half Limit of Ancilla-Free Linear Optics Bell Measurements

2013

We show that optically encoded two-qubit Bell states can be unambiguously discriminated with a success probability of more than 50% in both single-rail and dual-rail encodings by using active linear-optical resources that include Gaussian squeezing operations. These results are in contrast to the well-known upper bound of 50% for unambiguous discrimination of dual-rail Bell states using passive, static linear optics and arbitrarily many vacuum modes. We present experimentally feasible schemes that improve the success probability to 64.3% in dual-rail and to 62.5% in single-rail for a uniform random distribution of Bell states. Conceptually, this demonstrates that neither interactions that i…

Evaluation of the temperature effect on the fractional linear viscoelastic model for an epoxy resin

2016

The paper deals with the evolution of the parameters of a fractional model for different values of temperature. An experimental campaign has been performed on epoxy resin at different levels of temperature. It is shown that epoxy resin is very sensitive to the temperature.

Gauge integrals and selections of weakly compact valued multifunctions

2016

In the paper Henstock, McShane, Birkhoff and variationally multivalued integrals are studied for multifunctions taking values in the hyperspace of convex and weakly compact subsets of a general Banach space X. In particular the existence of selections integrable in the same sense of the corresponding multifunctions has been considered.

SPICE model for resistive gas and odour sensors

1999

A generalised PSPICE model of resistive gas/odour sensors is presented. The model simulates the response of both polymeric and metal oxide devices, as well as an integrated resistive heater that is used to set the operating temperature. In both cases there was good agreement between the observed responses and the PSPICE simulated responses to rectangular pulses of gases. The PSPICE model is not only simpler and faster to use than analytical solutions, but also should permit the rapid prototyping of associated drive circuitry.

Non-linear RLS-based algorithm for pattern classification

2006

A new non-linear recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm is presented in the context of pattern classification problems. The algorithm incorporates the non-linearity of the filter's output in the updating rules of the classical RLS algorithm. The proposed method yields lower stationary error levels when compared to the standard LMS and RLS algorithms in a classical application of pattern classification, such as the channel equalization problem.
