Fractional differential calculus for 3D mechanically based non-local elasticity
2011
This paper aims to formulate the three-dimensional (3D) problem of non-local elasticity in terms of fractional differential operators. The non-local continuum is framed in the context of the mechanically based non-local elasticity established by the authors in a previous study; Non-local interactions are expressed in terms of central body forces depending on the relative displacement between non-adjacent volume elements as well as on the product of interacting volumes. The non-local, long-range interactions are assumed to be proportional to a power-law decaying function of the interaction distance. It is shown that, as far as an unbounded domain is considered, the elastic equilibrium proble…
Robust finite-time fuzzy H∞ control for uncertain time-delay systems with stochastic jumps
2014
Abstract This paper investigates the problem of robust finite-time H ∞ control for a class of uncertain discrete-time Markovian jump nonlinear systems with time-delays represented by Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) model. Initially, the concepts of stochastic finite-time boundedness and stochastic finite-time H ∞ stabilization are presented. Then, by using stochastic Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional approach, sufficient conditions are derived such that the resulting close-loop system is stochastically finite-time bounded and satisfies a prescribed H ∞ disturbance attenuation level in a given finite-time interval. Furthermore, sufficient criteria on stochastic finite-time H ∞ stabilization using a fuzzy s…
Opportunities and challenges of the opening of the Arctic Ocean for Norway
2020
Abstract This chapter analyzes the potential opportunities and challenges associated with the opening of the Arctic Ocean for Norway. Climate change in the Arctic is opening up access to sea routes of the Arctic region, and this could boost trade and consequently result in a sharp increase in shipping traffic in Norway. Specifically, Northern Norway would become a focal point for port- and shipping-related activities. However, these opportunities can only be fully utilized if the various stakeholders involved are able to manage the challenges of the opening of the Arctic Ocean. Like opportunities, challenges also cover a range of spheres, including environmental pollution, ecological damage…
Notice of Violation of IEEE Publication Principles<BR>An adaptive routing mechanism for P2P resource discovery
2005
The key to the usability of large-scale decentralize peer-to-peer (P2P) systems, and one of the most challenge design aspects, is efficient mechanism for distributed resource discovery. Unstructured P2P networks are very attractive because they do not suffer the limitations of centralized systems an the drawbacks of highly structured approaches. However the search algorithms are usually based on simple flooding scheme generating large loads on the network participants. In this paper to address this major limitation, we present the design an evaluation of an innovative searching protocol in unstructured P2P networks. The approach aims at dynamically adapting the network topology to peers' in…
Well-balanced bicharacteristic-based scheme for multilayer shallow water flows including wet/dry fronts
2013
The aim of this paper is to present a new well-balanced finite volume scheme for two-dimensional multilayer shallow water flows including wet/dry fronts. The ideas, presented here for the two-layer model, can be generalized to a multilayer case in a straightforward way. The method developed here is constructed in the framework of the Finite Volume Evolution Galerkin (FVEG) schemes. The FVEG methods couple a finite volume formulation with evolution operators. The latter are constructed using the bicharacteristics of multidimensional hyperbolic systems. However, in the case of multilayer shallow water flows the required eigenstructure of the underlying equations is not readily available. Thus…
Metadata-based Personalization in Data Warehouses
2015
IP-OOP interaction in URM infilled frame structures: A new macro-modelling proposal
2020
Abstract Reinforced concrete frame structures with unreinforced masonry (URM) infills represent a common construction practice all over the world. To correctly assess the seismic performance of these structures, prediction of the behaviour of masonry infills under in-plane (IP) and out-of-plane (OOP) loading, as well as their interaction, is of primary importance. Different approaches are available in the literature with different levels of approximation for assessment of the IP-OOP infill response, showing increasing interest in this field. In this context, this paper presents a new macro-element model which can simulate the behaviour of URM infill walls under seismic IP and OOP actions. T…
Open government data portal usability: A user-centred usability analysis of 41 open government data portals
2021
Abstract Open government data, as a phenomena, may be considered an important and influential innovation that has the potential to drive the creation of public value via enabling the prevention of corruption, increase in accountability and transparency, and driving the co-creation of new and innovative services. However, in order for open government data to be fully taken advantage of, it must be found, understood, and used. Though many countries maintain open government data portals, the usability of said portals can vary greatly; this is important to understand as the usability of a portal likely impacts the eventual reuse of the data made available there. Acknowledging the importance of …
Transparency-by-design: What is the role of open data portals?
2021
Abstract Transparency in the public sector is one of the most important topics of the current debates on accountable, participatory, and responsive governance. An open government addresses these major topics and aims to encourage the relationships and flows of information between involved stakeholders. This article explores the role of open data portals in supporting these efforts and provides findings regarding the features in the design of these data infrastructures. On the basis of evidence from the concept of transparency-by-design, we argue that transparency is facilitated by open data portals and their features enabling to work with datasets. We therefore propose the list of the categ…
Performance evaluation of OpenFlow enabled Commodity and Raspberry-pi Wireless Routers
2017
Software defined network (SDN) allows the decoupling of data and control plane for dynamic and scalable network management. SDN is usually associated with OpenFlow protocol which is a standard interface that enables the network controllers to determine the path of network packets across a network of switches. In this paper, we evaluate openflow performance using commodity wireless router and raspberry pi with two different SDN controllers. Our test setup consists of wired and wireless client devices connected to openflow enabled commodity wireless router and raspberry pi. All clients used traffic generator tool to transmits data to a sink server host. The results are promising and paves the…
