Modular Middleware for Gestural Data and Devices Management

In the last few years, the use of gestural data has become a key enabler for human-computer interaction (HCI) applications. The growing diffusion of low-cost acquisition devices has thus led to the development of a class of middleware aimed at ensuring a fast and easy integration of such devices within the actual HCI applications. The growing popularity of Location-Based Services (LBSs) has boosted research on cheaper and more pervasive localization systems, typically relying on such monitoring equipment as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), which allow to re-use the same instrumentation both for monitoring and for localization without requiring lengthy off-line training. Efficient Analysis and Synthesis Using a New Factorization of the Gabor Frame Matrix

In this paper, we consider the case in which one needs to carry out Gabor analysis and synthesis on large signals using a short support analysis window and its corresponding, possibly longer canonical dual window, respectively. In this asymmetric context, we propose a novel factorization of the Gabor frame operator that exploits its strong and well-known structure and leads to a computational cost for synthesis, which is comparable to the one needed for short support analysis. Design of Multiresolution Operators Using Statistical Learning Tools: Application to Compression of Signals

Using multiresolution based on Harten's framework [J. Appl. Numer. Math., 12 (1993), pp. 153---192.] we introduce an alternative to construct a prediction operator using Learning statistical theory. This integrates two ideas: generalized wavelets and learning methods, and opens several possibilities in the compressed signal context. We obtain theoretical results which prove that this type of schemes (LMR schemes) are equal to or better than the classical schemes. Finally, we compare traditional methods with the algorithm that we present in this paper.
