The use of integrals in Mechanics of Materials textbooks for engineering students: the case of the first moment of an area

International audience; Research has reported on the difficulties engineering students face in relating the content of their mathematics courses to what is taught in their professional courses. One way to address these difficulties is by better understanding how mathematical notions are used in professional engineering courses. This paper analyses how the notion of first moment of an area – which is defined as an integral – is used in civil engineering courses. A Design-Oriented Analysis of Multimodality in English as a Foreign Language

This empirical article investigates multimodality in English as a foreign language, both as seen in the use of multimodal texts as artefacts and pedagogical texts for learning, and through an analysis of the multimodal learning designs. We present observations from a year 10 classroom in Norway that worked with the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Alexie, 2007). We explore a four-week teaching sequence, asking how different modes were involved when the educator designed literacy events around the novel, and how multimodality is present in the students’ meaning making. Resumen: El presente artículo se basa en una memoria de la asignatura de Proyectos de Diseño de Interiores, 2º curso, en IDarte.
 Cada ejercicio del curso queda resumido a través de una imagen. Dicha imagen se acompaña de una pequeña memoria que incluye el planteamiento, el soporte conceptual, los referentes históricos y filosóficos, así como la orientación pedagógica y la estrategia del ejercicio dentro del curso global.

AbstractPeer assessment has been shown to advance learning, for example, by improving one’s work, but the variance of learning benefits within or between studies has not been explained. The purpose of this case study was to examine what kinds of pathways students have through peer assessment and to study which factors affect them when peer assessment is implemented in the early stage of physics studies in the context of conducting and reporting inquiry.
