2014

This exploratory research is based on a qualitative survey using semi-structured interviews to investigate the attitudes, methods and tools used by 22 lecturers, belonging to the Y Generation. Three hypotheses about the characteristics attributed to this generation are studied: their need for innovation; their comfort with technology; their ability to multitask. Our results 1) uncover a variety of practices nevertheless referring to a teacher-centered approach; 2) suggest that the use of digital tools to teach and communicate with students is not a universal practice, and 3) demonstrate that issues related to student-teacher relationships are important

Using Digital Resources for Content and Language Integrated Learning: A Proposal for the ICT-Enrichment of a Course on Biology and Geology

2019

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM: TEACHER SKILLS TO PROMOTE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

2018

The Virtual Classroom is the main tool for blended learning, since it allows the breaking of time and space barriers between the teacher and the student. In order to develop and put into practice a higher studies course through this tool, teachers need to have a series of skills related to the command of digital technologies and an understanding of students’ affective and behavioral states: and to then apply appropriate communication strategies to deliver course content and prepare students for this innovative learning approach. This study reviews educational research literature on virtual classrooms, teacher behavior and student engagement to establish a theoretical model that explains the…

The Use of Digital Storytelling for ESP in a Technical English Course for Aerospace Engineers.

2012

Digital Storytelling is a powerful pedagogical tool for both students and educators, which started to be used for teaching and learning purposes a few years ago, becoming more and more popular over time. The use of digital storytelling in non-specific language learning contexts has been widely explored, as shown in the literature. However, its use in technical-scientific contexts of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has not been so widely studied. This paper explores a project of digital storytelling for ESP carried out at the Universitat Politècnica de València, in Spain. The methodology was divided into several stages: completing a pre- and a post-survey, learning about digital storytel…

2008

In an educational system like ours, with four curricular languages in compulsory education, language integrated treatment and its contents (TILC) has to become, undoubtedly, a privileged instrument for multilingual education, because it allows to fulfil two goals at the same time: to acquire contents of different academic disciplines and to simultaneously provide competences in the language or languages with which these contents are developed. This article describes the concept of integrated language treatment and contents; the main components of this approach are also analyzed from a didactic point of view; and finally all the aspects studied will be used in the structuring of a thematic u…
