Dense Solid-Liquid Suspensions in Top-Covered Unbaffled Stirred Vessels

In the present work solids suspension is investigated in an unbaffled tank stirred by a Rushton turbine and provided with a top-cover in order to avoid the formation of the well known central vortex. The data obtained are compared with those pertaining baffled stirred tanks via comparison with the well known Zwietering’s correlation. The dependence of Njs on particle concentration is found to be similar to that well established for baffled vessels, while, as a difference from the latter, Njs is found to decrease when liquid viscosity increases. Suspension of solid particles into liquids within stirred vessels is a complex phenomenon encountered in several industrial applications. Most researchers have focused their attention on the assessment of the minimum impeller speed (Njs) able to guarantee the suspension of all particles. The growing popularity of mobile-phone technology has led to changes in the way people—particularly younger people—communicate. A clear example of this is the advent of Short Message Service (SMS) language, which includes orthographic abbreviations (e.g., omitting vowels, as in wk, week) and phonetic respelling (e.g., using u instead of you). In the present study, we examined the pattern of eye movements during reading of SMS sentences (e.g., my hols wr gr8), relative to normally written sentences, in a sample of skilled “texters”. Probing the radio emission from air showers with polarization measurements

The emission of radio waves from air showers has been attributed to the so-called geomagnetic emission process. At frequencies around 50 MHz this process leads to coherent radiation which can be observed with rather simple setups. The direction of the electric field induced by this emission process depends only on the local magnetic field vector and on the incoming direction of the air shower. We report on measurements of the electric field vector where, in addition to this geomagnetic component, another component has been observed which cannot be described by the geomagnetic emission process. Let Ω ⊂ Rn be open. Given a homeomorphism of finite distortion with |Df| in the Lorentz space Ln−1, 1 (Ω), we show that and f−1 has finite distortion. A class of counterexamples demonstrating sharpness of the results is constructed.

The advent of the Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) necessitates the development of a powerful framework for the analysis of radio measurements of cosmic ray air showers. As AERA performs ‘‘radio- hybrid’’ measurements of air shower radio emission in coincidence with the surface particle detectors and fluorescence telescopes of the Pierre Auger Observatory, the radio analysis functionality had to be incorporated in the existing hybrid analysis solutions for fluorescence and surface detector data. Search for WH production with a light Higgs boson decaying to prompt electron-jets in proton–proton collisions at \(\sqrt {s}=7\) TeV with the ATLAS…

A search is performed for WH production with a light Higgs boson decaying to hidden-sector particles resulting in clusters of collimated electrons, known as electron-jets. The search is performed with 2.04 fb[superscript −1] of data collected in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in proton–proton collisions at √s=7 TeV . One event satisfying the signal selection criteria is observed, which is consistent with the expected background rate. Limits on the product of the WH production cross section and the branching ratio of a Higgs boson decaying to prompt electron-jets are calculated as a function of a Higgs boson mass in the range from 100 to 140 GeV.

Coupled Susy, pseudo-bosons and a deformed su(1, 1) Lie algebra

Abstract In a recent paper a pair of operators a and b satisfying the equations a † a = bb † + γ 1 and aa † = b † b + δ 1 , has been considered, and their nature of ladder operators has been deduced and analyzed. Here, motivated by the spreading interest in non self-adjoint operators in quantum mechanics, we extend this situation to a set of four operators, c, d, r and s, satisfying dc = rs + γ 1 and cd = sr + δ 1 , and we show that they are also ladder operators. We show their connection with biorthogonal families of vectors and with the so-called D -pseudo bosons. Some examples are discussed.
