A Robust Multi Stage Technique for Image Binarization of Degraded Historical Documents
2017
International audience; Document image binarization is a central problem in many document analysis systems. Indeed, it represents one of the basic challenges, especially in case of historical documents analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel robust multi stage framework that combines different existing document image thresholding methods for the purpose of getting a better binarization result. CLAHE technique is introduced to significantly enhance contrast in some poor images. The proposed method then uses a hybrid algorithm to partition image into foreground and background. A special procedure is finally applied in order to remove small noise and correct characters morphology. Experime…

Business-to-Business e-commerce adoption and perceived benefits: evidence from small and medium Spanish enterprises
2009
This paper focuses on the factors affecting Business-To-Business (B2B) e-commerce adoption and the perceived benefits for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). We propose and test a model that analyses the influence of firms' previous experience and environmental factors on e-B2B adoption and the effects of e-B2B adoption on the perceived benefits and the intention to continue adopting B2B. Our results show that the more e-B2B is used in SMEs, the higher the level of perceived benefits and this, in turn, has a positive influence on the intention to continue doing B2B e-commerce. Managerial implications of these findings are also discussed.
Self-organized nanostructures of poly(4-vinylpyridine), polyaniline and polyamides due to metal complexation
2002
Comb-shaped supramolecules are constructed using flexible polymers and semi-rigid conjugated undoped or doped conjugated polymers upon complexing Zinc dodecyl benzene sulphonate, Zn(DBS) 2 . Self-organized nanostructures are formed in the bulk due to competing attractive interactions (coordination or water mediated hydrogen bonding) and repulsive polar/nonpolar interactions, showing characteristic long periods of ca. 30 A.

Using eye-movement modelling examples to improve critical reading of multiple webpages on a conflicting topic
2022
This project investigates the effects of an EMME intervention on undergraduates' sourcing when reading conflicting multiple texts on the Internet. Dependent variables: eye-movements on SERP, webs header, texts authors, and texts; use of source information in summaries; ideas from texts in summaries.
Search for supersymmetry in events with photons, bottom quarks, and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energ…
2013
A search has been performed for the experimental signature of an isolated photon with high transverse momentum, at least one jet identified as originating from a bottom quark, and high missing transverse momentum. Such a final state may originate from supersymmetric models with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking in events in which one of a pair of higgsino-like neutralinos decays into a photon and a gravitino while the other decays into a Higgs boson and a gravitino. The search is performed using the full dataset of 7 TeV proton–proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1. A total of 7 candidate events are o…
Measurement of the top quark pair production cross-section with ATLAS in the single lepton channel
2012
A measurement of the production cross-section for top quark pairs (t[bar over t]) in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV is presented using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in the single lepton topology by requiring an electron or muon, large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets. With a data sample of 35 pb[superscript −1], two different multivariate methods, one of which uses b-quark jet identification while the other does not, use kinematic variables to obtain cross-section measurements of σ[subscript t bar over t] = 187 ± 11 (stat.) [+18 over −17] (syst.) ± 6 (lumi.) pb and σ[subscript t bar over t] = 173 ± 17 (stat.) [+18 ove…
Monitoring and data quality assessment of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter
2014
The liquid argon calorimeter is a key component of the ATLAS detector installed at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The primary purpose of this calorimeter is the measurement of electron and photon kinematic properties. It also provides a crucial input for measuring jets and missing transverse momentum. An advanced data monitoring procedure was designed to quickly identify issues that would affect detector performance and ensure that only the best quality data are used for physics analysis. This article presents the validation procedure developed during the 2011 and 2012 LHC data-taking periods, in which more than 98% of the proton-proton luminosity recorded by ATLAS at a centre-of-mass ener…
DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT USING CLUSTERING ALGORITHMS
2015
Document management systems are complex systems, which offer services as storage, versioning, metadata, security, as well as indexing and retrieval capabilities. Large numbers of documents could be automatically grouped into classes of documents, which contain similar information. Therefor we propose to use clustering methods in order to group the documents. Clustering is an important process in text mining used for groping documents based on their contents in order to extract knowledge. In this paper we will present some requirements for clustering algorithms for a document management system
