Verkkoproosa : tutkimus dialogisesta kirjoittamisesta
2007
This theoretical work scrutinizes poetical aspects of writing in the web (blogs, chat, forums). The practice of writing called web prose use the elements of speech and textualize it. This brings web prose near the tradition of literature, not as art, but as style of prose writing. By using H-G Gadamer`s hermeneutics, philosophy of conversation and poetics, I ask how the tradition of writing comes in to the web. Web is scrutinized from the aspects of poetics, dialogue and publicity. The work examines language and genre from the approach of the writing studies. Dialoque has an important function also in the web prose, when writing is getting closer to conversation. At last part I ask what cha…
kLa MEASUREMENT IN BIOREACTORS
2010
For accurately measuring kLa in bioreactors the dynamic pressure method (DPM) was introduced by Linek et al. (1993). In this work a simplified version of the same method is discussed. With respect to the original DPM, the simplified version greatly simplifies data treatment. In fact final constant slope observable in the usual semi-log diagram of residual driving force versus time may be simply corrected to obtain the real kLa value with negligible inaccuracy. Experimental data obtained on a lab-size stirred tank reactor confirm all model predictions, including the feature that the adoption of large pressure changes may lead to a better accuracy.

Vortex shape in unbaffled stirred vessels: experimental study via digital image analysis
2011
There is a growing interest in using unbaffled stirred tanks for addressing certain processing needs. In this work, digital image analysis coupled with a suitable shadowgraphy-based technique is used to investigate the shape of the free-surface vortex that forms in uncovered unbaffled stirred tanks. The technique is based on back-lighting the vessel and suitably averaging vortex shape over time. Impeller clearance from vessel bottom and tank filling level are varied to investigate their influence on vortex shape. A correlation is finally proposed to fully describe vortex shape also when the vortex encompasses the impeller.
A Conceptual Framework for Using and Evaluating Web-Based Learning Resources in School Education
2010
Published version of an article from the journal:Journal of Information Technology Education. Also available from the publisher: http://www.jite.org/documents/Vol9/JITEv9p053-079Hadjerrouit743.pdf Web-based learning resources (WBLRs) have provided teachers with a wide range of new teachingexperiences that are not possible in traditional classroom. However, little research has beendone as to which approach to WBLRs is suitable to address issues that are pertinent to learning. This paper proposes a conceptual framework to explore the design and evaluation of WBLRs inschool education. The paper also examines the way in which the framework is used to evaluatestudents? and teachers? perceptions o…
Plasma membrane redox system in the erythrocytes of rowers: Pilot study
2017
The oxidative stress results from a change in the physiological balance between oxidant and antioxidant species. This type of stress is a chemical change in the redox state of cells. The increased production of reactive species is related to an excessive metabolic activation, for example, from an intense physical exercise or an excessive caloric intake (1). In physiological conditions, muscle fibers are provided with an antioxidant system able to keep under control the excessive production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS).
Investigating effects of reading medium and reading purpose on behavioral engagement and textual integration in a multiple text context
2019
Abstract The study addressed to what extent behavioral engagement and textual integration may differ when undergraduate readers work with identical printed versus digital texts in preparation for an exam versus for pleasure. We expected that working with printed texts would lead to greater engagement and better integration than working with digital texts, but that reading purpose would moderate this effect of reading medium because those reading in preparation for an exam would display greater engagement and better integration regardless of reading medium. Results showed interaction effects of reading medium with reading purpose on the behavioral engagement indicators of reading time and th…
Effects of reading real versus print-out versions of multiple documents on students? sourcing and integrated understanding
2018
Abstract This study investigated the extent to which students’ sourcing and comprehension can be supported by the reading of real, as opposed to print-out versions of multiple documents. It was found that the reading of real rather than print-out versions of multiple documents on the issue of climate change increased students’ memory for source information and made them include more specific references to document sources in argument essays that they wrote about the issue. In turn, such increased sourcing in essays mediated the positive effect of reading real versus print-out versions of documents on students’ construction of coherent representations of the documents’ content information. The VST Photometric Hα Survey of the Southern Galactic Plane and Bulge (VPHAS+)
2014
The VST Photometric Halpha Survey of the Southern Galactic Plane and Bulge (VPHAS+) is surveying the southern Milky Way in u, g, r, i and Halpha at 1 arcsec angular resolution. Its footprint spans the Galactic latitude range -5 < b < +5 at all longitudes south of the celestial equator. Extensions around the Galactic Centre to Galactic latitudes +/-10 bring in much of the Galactic Bulge. This ESO public survey, begun on 28th December 2011, reaches down to 20th magnitude (10-sigma) and will provide single-epoch digital optical photometry for around 300 million stars. The observing strategy and data pipelining is described, and an appraisal of the segmented narrowband Halpha filter in us…
