Child–display interaction:Lessons learned on touchless avatar-based large display interfaces
2020
AbstractDuring the last decade, touchless gestural interfaces have been widely studied as one of the most promising interaction paradigms in the context of pervasive displays. In particular, avatars and silhouettes have proved to be effective in making the touchless capacity of displays self-evident. In this paper, we focus on a child–display interaction approach to avatar-based touchless gestural interfaces. We believe that large displays offer an opportunity to stimulate children’s experiences and engagement; for instance, learning about art is very engaging for children but can bring a number of challenges. Our study aims to contribute to the literature on both pervasive displays and chi…
A Recent Advancement: Casing while Drilling – A Viable Alternative to Conventional Drilling
2021
Mankind’s increased requirement for and dependence on energy resources, including the resources resulting from discovery and development of new hydrocarbon commercial reservoirs involves the use of new technologies such as optimization of the drilling process by reducing the non-productive time, the costs and the risks. Casing while drilling involves elimination of classical drilling string by using the casing string both for transmission to the bit of the mechanical energy and for circulation of drilling fluid into the well. Casing while drilling, constantly improving over time, has proven an efficient method to reduce risks, especially those related to the presence of a conventional…
Casing while Drilling – a Viable Alternative to Conventional Drilling
2019
Mankind’s increased requirement for and dependence on energy resources, including the resources resulting from discovery and development of new hydrocarbon commercial reservoirs involves the use of new technologies such as optimization of the drilling process by reducing the non-productive time, the costs and the risks. Casing while drilling involves elimination of classical drilling string by using the casing string both for transmission to the bit of the mechanical energy and for circulation of drilling fluid into the well. Although there is a number of technical or perception barriers related to the use of casing drilling, the important benefits of this technology related to reduced dril…
Photonically assisted RF generator with incoherent sources
2008
An RF waveform generator operating with incoherent broadband light is successfully implemented. Complex RF ~10 GHz bandwidth waveforms are generated by means of incoherent wavelength-to-time mapping. Our technique can be scaled to the mm-wave range.

Teacher competencies in game-based pedagogy
2018
This study examines what kind of competencies teachers need in using game-based pedagogy (GBP). In our conceptual framework, GBP entails four approaches: using educational games or entertainment games, learning by making games, and using gamification in learning. Our data, consisting of teachers’ documentation, thematic interviews and questionnaires, were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Four main competence areas were identified: pedagogical, technological, collaborative and creative. The results are applicable for developing teacher education and in-service training, as teacher competencies in game-based learning will be more integral to teachers’ professional knowledge and sk…
Stroke Analysis in Padel According to Match Outcome and Game Side on Court
2020
The aim of this study was to analyze the distribution of padel strokes, their effectiveness, direction, and court zone, comparing between the winning and losing pairs in the match and the playing side of the players. The sample included 8441 strokes corresponding to 1055 points out of a total of nine padel matches in the First National Category. The variables analyzed were type of stroke, court area, effectiveness and directions of the strokes, match outcome, and game side. Matches were analyzed through systematic observation. The results showed that the winning pair made a significantly higher percentage of winners, and cross-court smashes and volleys from the offensive zone. In addition, …
Live LEGO House: a Mixed Reality Game for the Edutainment
2007
Gaming is a natural way of learning and multimedia technologies bring new possibilities in the field of edutainment. Live LEGO House in an interactive space to explore coexistence and multicultural factors through gaming based on the Mixed Reality(MXR)technology. The system consists basically on a physical/real house built with the LEGO blocks, which is enriched with different non-physical/virtual multimedia files, including sounds, videos and 3D animations with multicultural content. Children in teract with the house via two dolls, each of them having different characteristics and needs. They (children) will need to agree in some aspects in order to play the game properly, to coexist. Tact…
Prevención de las adicciones tecnológicas en la adolescencia
2017
Technological addictions (social networks, mobile and video games) are one of the current main problems presented by adolescents in relation to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This paper describes the main characteristics of these new addictions and presents the ADITEC, an instrument whose objectives are the evaluation and prevention of these addictions. ADITEC is a tool specially designed to be applied in educational settings, with homeworks that can be supervised by parents.
CiNetStrain - Wireless Strain Gauge Network - Calibration and Reliability Measurements
2013
Wireless sensor networks can be extended to include numerous different sensing devices. Strain gauges are the most common nondestructive sensing elements for measuring surface strain. This paper discusses the design, for the wireless CiNet network, of a strain gauge measurement system, which would make strain measurements more flexible while opening new targets of application in addition to those that traditional wired strain measuring systems can offer. The calibration and validation of the wireless strain measurements as well as energy consumption issues are also brought under observation.
