Spectrophotometric determination of promazine with an oxidative column in FIA manifolds

Abstract A simple flow-injection spectrophotometric method for the determination of promazine is described. The two proposed procedures are based on the oxidation of analyte with a manganese dioxide column. Concentrations of promazine in the ranges 2–20 and 1–6 are determined with a relative standard deviation of 1.0%. The injection rates are 62 and 80 samples h −1 , respectively. The influence of foreign species and the determination of promazine in a pharmaceutical formulation are also reported.

Capillary electrokinetic fractionation (CEkF) is investigated as a new, simple, and robust approach for semipreparative and analytical sample analysis based on pKa -dependant pH-driven electrophoretic mobility. CEkF was optimized with contactless conductivity detection and conducted with 10 kV reverse voltage for 10 min, then coupled on/at-line to ESI/MS. Preanalytical stability of a drug and its major metabolites is an important consideration in pharmacokinetic studies or whenever the analyte pattern is used to estimate drug habits. Firstly, the stability of free and glucuronidated 11-nor-delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid (THCCOOH, THCCOOglu) in authentic urine samples was investigated. Photocatalytic degradation of carbaryl in aqueous TiO2 suspensions containing surfactants

The effect of ionic and non-ionic aliphatic surfactants on the photocatalytic degradation of Carbaryl (1-naphtyl-N-methylcarbamate) in aqueous solutions containing suspended TiO2 (anatase) particles, under irradiation with simulated AM1 solar light, was investigated. A neat inhibitory effect on the degradation rate was observed, depending on the nature of the surfactant and on the initial pH of the solution. Scope and Limitations of Baird's Theory on Triplet State Aromaticity: Application to the Tuning of Singlet–Triplet Energy Gaps in Fulvenes

Utilizing Baird's theory on triplet state aromaticity, we show that the singlet-triplet energy gaps (DeltaE(ST)) of pentafulvenes are easily varied through substitution by as much as 36 kcal mol(-1). This exploits the fact that fulvenes act as aromatic chameleons in which the dipoles reverse on going from the singlet ground state (S(0)) to the lowest pipi* triplet state (T1); thus, their electron distributions are adapted so as to achieve some aromaticity in both states. Synthesis and antioxidant evaluation of novel silybin analogues

In this work, we evaluated the antioxidant properties of the eight novel silybin analogues for their capacity to scavenge free radicals including superoxide anion radicals and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals in vitro. Compound 7d demonstrated an excellent antioxidant effect in scavenging superoxide anion free radical with an IC50 value of 26.5 microM, while the IC50 of quercetin (the reference compound) was 38.1 microM. Compounds 7b, 7e, 7h showed certain scavenging activities for both types of free radicals.

Mitochondrial glutathione depletion by glutamine in growing tumor cells.

The effect of L-glutamine (Gln) on mitochondrial glutathione (mtGSH) levels in tumor cells was studied in vivo in Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT)-bearing mice. Tumor growth was similar in mice fed a Gln-enriched diet (GED; where 30% of the total dietary nitrogen was from Gln) or a nutritionally complete elemental diet (SD). As compared with non-tumor-bearing mice, tumor growth caused a decrease of blood Gln levels in mice fed an SD but not in those fed a GED. Tumor cells in mice fed a GED showed higher glutaminase and lower Gln synthetase activities than did cells isolated from mice fed an SD.
