Misconceptions of the p-value among Chilean and Italian academic psychologists

Common misconceptions of p-values are based on certain beliefs and attributions about the significance of the results. Thus, they affect the professionals' decisions and jeopardize the quality of interventions and the accumulation of valid scientific knowledge. We conducted a survey on 164 academic psychologists (134 Italian, 30 Chilean) questioned on this topic. Our findings are consistent with previous research and suggest that some participants do not know how to correctly interpret p-values. The development and alignment of pedagogical conceptions of health education

Abstract This study examined the development and alignment of conceptions of health education as a subject, and of its teaching and learning, among Finnish health education student teachers (n = 20). Longitudinal phenomenographic data (essays, interviews) were collected at two time points during health education studies, and at one time point after the participants had gained 1–3 years of work experience. The proportion of participants expressing the most sophisticated pedagogical conceptions decreased during teacher training, but increased after the gaining of work experience. The main aim of this study was to investigate how Finnish pre-service special needs teachers’ (N = 134) assessment conceptions, prior academic studies in special education and teaching experience together cluster into different patterns representing different student types. Their assessment conceptions formed three main factors: 1) assessment measures learning, 2) assessment supports teaching and learning, and 3) assessment as a harmful action. Skills have recently received widespread attention in education policy documents and discussions. This article reports the results of research on Bachelor’s degree physiotherapy students’ conceptions of skill at the beginning of their studies. The aim of the present study was to examine how beginning students understand skill, and the focus was on conceptions of skill in general rather than on any particular skills. La investigación pretende conocer los enfoques y concepciones sobre docencia del profesorado universitario a lo largo de su trayectoria profesional. Desde la fenomenografía pero con enfoque metodológico mixto, nuestro análisis muestra gran variabilidad respecto cómo los docentes comprenden y expresan sus experiencias y concepciones sobre docencia. Éstas se pueden clasificar en: impartir conocimiento, entusiasmar y motivar, desarrollar habilidades y cambiar concepciones en los estudiantes; con combinaciones entre ellas.
