Can Extensive Reticulation and Concerted Evolution Result in a Cladistically Structured Molecular Data Set?
2001
Hierarchy is the main criterion for informativeness in a data set, even if no explicit reference to evolution as a causal process is provided. Sequence data (nuclear ribosomal DNA ITS) from Armeria (Plumbaginaceae) contains a certain amount of hierarchical structure as suggested by data decisiveness (DD) and distribution of tree lengths (DTL). However, ancillary evidence suggests that extensive gene flow and biased concerted evolution in these multi-copy regions have significantly shaped the ITS data set. This argument is discussed using parsimony analysis of four data sets, constructed by combining wild sequences with those from different generations of artificial hybrids (wild + F1, F2, a…
Populations, hybrids and the systematic concepts of species and subspecies in Chagas disease triatomine vectors inferred from nuclear ribosomal and m…
2009
In Chagas disease, triatomine vectors are the main target for control measures because of the absence of effective drugs. The broad usefulness of nuclear rDNA and mtDNA sequences explains why triatomine studies using these markers have increased so pronouncedly in recent years. This indicates the appropriateness of an updated review about these molecular markers, concentrating on aspects useful for research on Chagas disease vectors. A comparative analysis is presented on the efficiency, weight of their different characteristics, limitations and problems of each of the different DNA markers in the light of the results obtained in studies on populations, hybrids, subspecies and species of th…
Yvettin glas
2017
Yvette Guilbert was a great singer and diseuse whose career spanned over almost 70 years. The article presents her artistic achievements, closely scrutinizes two of her famous songs and finally concentrates on her close relationship and correspondence with Sigmund Freud. Their correspondence from the early 1930s surprisingly focuses on the very nature of art, where the views of the two correspondents significantly differ. Yvette Guilbert's views, naive as they may seem, actually present a strong counterpoint to Freud's theoretical take on art. The paper presents the starting point of a more extensive book-length research into this unlikely and instructive exchange.
Gas-phase H/D-exchange reactions on resorcinarene and pyrogallarene capsules: Proton transport through a one-dimensional Grotthuss mechanism
2011
Hydrogen/deuterium exchange (HDX) experiments can be used to examine the gas-phase structure of hydrogen-bonded dimeric resorcinarene and pyrogallarene capsules. Already the qualitative comparison of the isotope exchange rates of different host–guest complexes with Cs+, tetramethyl ammonium (TMA+) and tetraethyl ammonium (TEA+) as the guest cations provides insight into the H/D-exchange mechanisms and with it, into the capsules' gas-phase ion structures. The smaller Cs+cations bind inside dimeric capsules with an intact seam of hydrogen bonds between the two monomers. Larger cations such as TEA+ lead to capsules with partially disrupted seams of hydrogen bonds. A fast isotope exchange is on…
How to make people become Ambassadors of Jazz - A Comparative Case Study of Voluntary Jazz Concert Promoters in Agder
2018
Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2018 This study observes the comparative cases of two jazz clubs in the region of Agder, South of Norway. The cases investigated are the Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) and voluntary associations (VOs); Kristiansand Jazzvesen (KJV) and Arendal Jazzklubb (AJ), that has slightly different organisational structures and environments. The main objective has been to unveil if there is a need for ambassadors of jazz, or jazz enthusiasts, in order for these jazz concert promoters to ‘thrive’, improve their live jazz concert experiences and recruit new volunteers. Then, how this can be achieved in a fast-changing digitalised “festivalised”…
Muzyka w kościołach Kłodzka - od czasów najdawniejszych do współczesności
2009
Wysoki poziom prezentowali kłodzcy organiści, zwłaszcza Johann Franz Otto (1732–1805), zaliczany do najwybitniejszych organistów Śląska w XVIII wieku. Od końca XVIII wieku w kościele Wniebowzięcia NMP działał chór parafialny. Muzycy kłodzcy należeli też do Związku Cecyliańskiego.
This articleaims to explain and analyze the development of the valencian educationmodel in recent decades, also identifying what its main results have been in terms of public policy. To this end, the main milestones that mark its development will be analyzed…
Incomplete sequence homogenization in 45S rDNA multigene families: intermixed IGS heterogeneity within the single NOR locus of the polyploid species …
2014
† Background and Aims Ribosomal sequences have become the classical example of the genomic homogenization of nuclear multigene families. Despite theoretical advantages and modelling predictions that support concerted evolution of the 45S rDNA, several reports have found intragenomic polymorphisms. However, the origins and causes of these rDNA polymorphisms are difficult to assess because seed plants show a wide range of 45S rDNA loci number variation, especially in polyploids. Medicago arborea is a tetraploid species that has a single 45S rDNA locus. This feature makes this species a suitable case study to assess the fate of ribosomal IGS homogenization in polyploid species showing nucleolu…
The molecular evolution of sperm zonadhesin.
2008
Based on pioneering work of Hardy and Garbers, zonadhesin has become one of the best studied sperm ligands in boreoeutherian mammals, both from a biochemical and evolutionary perspective. Zonadhesin is a mosaic-type protein that localizes to the apical head of spermatozoa. In pig, cattle, rabbit and primates, zonadhesin precursor essentially consists of two or three MAM (meprin/A5 antigen/mu receptor tyrosine phosphatase) domains, one mucin-like domain, one incomplete and four complete D domains (homologous to vWFD). Mouse zonadhesin is distinguished from this general pattern by 20 extra partial D3 domains. While concerted evolution drives the divergence of the mucin-like domain in the orth…
