Looking for determinants of willingness-to-pay for Sibelius Hall, Lahti

The aim of this paper is to determine the factors affecting the willingness-to-pay for a local concert hall, namely Sibelius Hall in Lahti. Our study argues that a high income, the use of cultural services and a positive attitude towards culture were connected to a high willingness-to-pay for Sibelius Hall. Our study revealed that “I do not know” answers can be partly explained by the character of cultural preferences being an acquired taste. As a consequence, the users and respondents exhibiting a positive attitude towards culture may choose the “I do not know” option instead of making a zero bid. peerReviewed

All Eyes on Me : Behaving as Soloist in Duo Performances Leads to Increased Body Movements and Attracts Observers’ Visual Attention

Duo musicians exhibit a broad variety of bodily gestures, but it is unclear how soloists’ and accompanists’ movements differ and to what extent they attract observers’ visual attention. In Experiment 1, seven musical duos’ body movements were tracked while they performed two pieces in two different conditions. In a congruent condition, soloist and accompanist behaved according to their expected musical roles; in an incongruent condition, the soloist behaved as accompanist and vice versa. Results revealed that behaving as soloist, regardless of the condition, led to more, smoother, and faster head and shoulder movements over a larger area than behaving as accompanist. Dans cet article, nous approchons la question de la prescription culturelle par son inscription matérielle en nous intéressant à la circulation d'albums au sein de deux mondes musicaux : le monde du hardcore punk et celui de l'indie rock. Dans ces mondes, ces supports sont au centre des attachements que les individus entretiennent avec la musique et jouent un rôle prescriptif important. Celui-ci est double puisque l'album est, à la fois, le résultat des chaînes de prescription qui le transportent, et dispose d'une affordance prescriptive propre.
