1-Year Outcomes After Edge-to-Edge Valve Repair for Symptomatic Tricuspid Regurgitation
2019
Abstract Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate procedural and 1-year clinical and echocardiographic outcomes of patients treated with tricuspid edge-to-edge repair. Background Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair has been successfully performed in selected patients with symptomatic tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and high risk for surgery, but outcome data are sparse. Methods This analysis of the multicenter international TriValve (Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Therapies) registry included 249 patients with severe TR treated with edge-to-edge repair in compassionate and/or off-label use. Clinical and echocardiographic outcomes were prospectively collected and retrospectively analyz…

Chronification of migraine: what clinical strategies to combat it?
2013
Once migraine becomes chronic and has transformed into a form of headache that occurs daily or almost, the treatment options available are few and complex. This makes it important to take action before this point is reached, using all the measures that can be obtained from our current knowledge of chronic migraine (or transformed migraine) on the one hand, and on the potential factors of chronification (or transformation) on the other. Therefore, in order to reduce the risk of migraine chronification, it would appear important to: (a) administer suitable preventive treatments for subjects who have been suffering from migraines ≥4 days a month for ≥3 months; (b) take special care not to over…
Zwei Fälle von Humeruskopfosteolyse unklarer Genese
2008
Taking in account the medical history, the clinical and radiological presentation and the intraoperative and histological findings, two cases of osteolysis of the humeral head of unknown origin are discussed. After exclusion of underlying concomitant diseases a traumatic etiology seemed to be the most probable explanation although in both cases a trauma was denied by the patients. We are unaware of any similar cases published in the literature.
Suizidale und parasuizidale Intoxikationen mit Paracetamol
2003
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Paracetamol is frequently used in deliberate self-poisoning resulting in a major risk for the patients due to its dose-dependent hepatotoxicity. In the present study the cases of intoxications consulting our Poison Center should be analysed illustrating recent results and trends. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 38 065 patients (25 098 female, 12447 male, 520 sex unknown, average age 36.8 years) registered during the study period from 1.1.1995 until 31.5.2002 4021 with paracetamol intoxication were analysed with respect to the ingested dose, concomitant substances, the degree of observed symptoms and the length of hospital stay. RESULTS: The use of paracetamol in deliber…
Coronary artery bypass graft versus percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stent implantation for diabetic patients with unprotected le…
2013
textabstractAims: Data regarding the impact on clinical outcomes of PCI with DES implantation vs. CABG to treat unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA) disease in diabetic patients are still insufficient. The present study evaluated the short-term and long-term results of percutaneous and surgical revascularisation in diabetic patients with ULMCA disease in a large population. Methods and results: A total of 826 diabetic patients with ULMCA stenosis who received DES (n=520) or underwent CABG (n=306) were selected and analysed from the DELTA registry. In-hospital MACCE was significantly higher in the CABG group, mainly driven by a higher incidence of MI. At four-year follow-up, freedom…
Clinical patterns and characteristics of midfacial fractures in western romanian population: a 10-year retrospective study
2019
Background The aim of this study was to identify the clinical pattern of midfacial fractures and concomitant associated injuries in our geographical area, as well as to correlate them in order to determine the type of fracture with the highest incidence of associated injuries. Material and Methods A 10-year retrospective evaluation of midfacial fractures was performed in 379 patients. Results Zygomatic complex fractures had the highest incidence (n=242, 50%). The majority of the fractures were complete (n=561, 92.42%), closed (n=473, 84.16%) and without displacement (n=454, 80.78%) regardless of the location of the fracture line (p=0.014). All patients had at least one associated soft tissu…
A Large-Scale Trial Testing the Intensità of CYTOreductive Therapy to prevent Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Polycythemia Vera (CYTO-PV trial…
2012
Abstract Abstract 4 Introduction Current treatment recommendations in polycythemia vera (PV) have emphasized to maintain the hematocrit (HCT) values <0.45 based on hemorrheological notions, results of a few small observational retrospective studies and consensus of experts. However, post-hoc analysis of two large randomized clinical trials (namely PVSG-1 and ECLAP) failed to show a different incidence of major thrombosis when HCT levels were kept in the range between 0.40 and 0.50. So far, no randomized clinical trial has provided evidence-based data assessing the usefulness of tight HCT control in reducing thrombosis. Thus, uncertainty of the optimal HCT target exists in clinical practi…
Compromised Lung Volume and Hemostatic Abnormalities in COVID-19 Pneumonia: Results from an Observational Study on 510 Consecutive Patients
2021
Background: Hemostatic abnormalities have been described in COVID-19, and pulmonary microthrombosis was consistently found at autopsy with concomitant severe lung damage. Methods: This is a retrospective observational cross-sectional study including consecutive patients with COVID-19 pneumonia who underwent unenhanced chest CT upon admittance at the emergency room (ER) in one large academic hospital. QCT was used for the calculation of compromised lung volume (%CL). Clinical data were retrieved from patients’ files. Laboratory data were obtained upon presentation at the ER. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between hemostatic abnormalities and lung involvement in pa…
Can chemotherapy concomitantly delivered with radiotherapy improve survival of patients with resectable rectal cancer? A meta-analysis of literature …
2010
Summary Background There is clear evidence from two systematic reviews that radiotherapy (RT) reduces the risk of local recurrence in patients with resectable rectal cancer, though the data on survival are still equivocal. Objective To assess the effects of chemotherapy combined concomitantly with radiotherapy (CRT) on the increase of overall survival, and on the prevention of local recurrence and distant metastases. Data sources Computerized bibliographic searches of MEDLINE and CANCERLIT (1970–2008) were supplemented with hand searches of reference lists. Study selection Studies were included if they were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing preoperative or postoperative CRT to p…
