Deconvolution of the Effects of Binary Associations and Collective Assemblies on the Rheological Properties of Entangled Side-Chain Supramolecular Po…
2019
The properties and function of supramolecular polymer networks are determined not only by pairwise interchain transient associations but also by chain entanglement and nanoscopic phase separation of the associative groups. To unravel the impact and interplay of these different factors, we devise a set of model supramolecular polymer networks in which the number of entanglements and the density of associative groups are systematically varied. Rheological data show that by increasing the density of associative groups, the plateau modulus grows to a steady level and extends over a distinct frequency range. This is credited to the presence of binary associations with unique partner exchange tim…
Organic Polyradicals as Redox Mediators: Effect of Intramolecular Radical Interactions on Their Efficiency
2020
The spin–spin interactions between unpaired electrons in organic (poly)radicals, especially nitroxides, are largely investigated and are of crucial importance for their applications in areas such as organic magnetism, molecular charge transfer, or multiple spin labeling in structural biology. Recently, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyloxyl and polymers functionalized with nitroxides have been described as successful redox mediators in several electrochemical applications; however, the study of spin–spin interaction effect in such an area is absent. This communication reports the preparation of a novel family of discrete polynitroxide molecules, with the same number of radical units but differe…
Phonon-plasmon coupling in Si doped GaN nanowires
2016
Abstract The vibrational properties of silicon doped GaN nanowires with diameters comprised between 40 and 100 nm are studied by Raman spectroscopy through excitation with two different wavelengths: 532 and 405 nm. Excitation at 532 nm does not allow the observation of the coupled phonon–plasmon upper mode for the intentionally doped samples. Yet, excitation at 405 nm results in the appearance of a narrow peak at frequencies close to that of the uncoupled A 1 (LO) mode for all samples. This behavior points to phonon–plasmon scattering mediated by large phonon wave-vector in these thin and highly doped nanowires.
Lattice-Site-Specific Spin Dynamics in Double PerovskiteSr2CoOsO6
2014
Magnetic properties and spin dynamics have been studied for the structurally ordered double perovskite Sr2CoOsO6. Neutron diffraction, muon-spin relaxation, and ac-susceptibility measurements reveal two antiferromagnetic (AFM) phases on cooling from room temperature down to 2 K. In the first AFM phase, with transition temperature TN1=108 K, cobalt (3d7, S=3/2) and osmium (5d2, S=1) moments fluctuate dynamically, while their average effective moments undergo long-range order. In the second AFM phase below TN2=67 K, cobalt moments first become frozen and induce a noncollinear spin-canted AFM state, while dynamically fluctuating osmium moments are later frozen into a randomly canted state at…
Magnetic properties of Cd–Mg–Tb quasicrystal
2004
Abstract The magnetic properties of an icosahedral Cd–Mg–Tb quasicrystal were studied by dc magnetization and thermoremanent magnetization time decay measurements. An unusual temperature dependence of the susceptibility below freezing temperature can be attributed to the inhomogeneous sample structure. In addition to the quasicrystalline portion which exhibits a spin-glass transition at 12.5 K a part of the sample behaves like a paramagnet. During aging of the sample in air the spin-glass part transforms into the paramagnetic one. The linear M ∝ H dependence of the thermoremanent magnetization time decay on magnetic field is quite different as compared to canonical spin glasses.
Spin-resolved terahertz spectroscopy
2016
As such, terahertz spectroscopy cannot resolve the spin structure of conducting particles. Here we introduce the spin sensitivity to terahertz spectroscopy by using the spin-valve configuration of the sample. As a result, the number density and momentum scattering time of conduction electrons in a ferromagnetic metal can be resolved according to their spin.
Lattice Instability and Competing Spin Structures in the Double Perovskite InsulatorSr2FeOsO6
2013
The semiconductor Sr2FeOsO6, depending on temperature, adopts two types of spin structures that differ in the spin sequence of ferrimagnetic iron-osmium layers along the tetragonal c axis. Neutron powder diffraction experiments, 57Fe Mossbauer spectra, and density functional theory calculations suggest that this behavior arises because a lattice instability resulting in alternating iron-osmium distances fine-tunes the balance of competing exchange interactions. Thus, Sr2FeOsO6 is an example of a double perovskite, in which the electronic phases are controlled by the interplay of spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom.
Spin-polarized photoelectrons resonantly excited by circularly polarized light from a fractional Ag film on GaAs(100)
2013
We demonstrate a finite spin polarization of photoelectrons emitted from GaAs(100) covered by a fractional Ag film. The photoemission yield shows a sharp maximum for intermediate coverage and the spin polarization increases with increasing laser intensity. Photoelectrons are excited by circularly polarized 100 fs laser pulses of 800 nm wavelength. We recorded the photoemitted electrons using a photoemission electron microscope combined with a Mott spin polarimeter. The spin polarization is analyzed in dependence on the excitation frequency and intensity and on the average thickness of the silver film. The results are explained by a model combining multiphoton photoemission and optical field…
Doping dependence of spin dynamics of drifting electrons in GaAs bulks
2010
We study the effect of the impurity density on lifetimes and relaxation lengths of electron spins in the presence of a static electric field in a n-type GaAs bulk. The transport of electrons and the spin dynamics are simulated by using a semiclassical Monte Carlo approach, which takes into account the intravalley scattering mechanisms of warm electrons in the semiconductor material. Spin relaxation is considered through the D'yakonov-Perel mechanism, which is the dominant mechanism in III-V semiconductors. The evolution of spin polarization is analyzed by computing the lifetimes and depolarization lengths as a function of the doping density in the range 10^{13} - 10^{16} cm^{-3}, for differ…
Solvent-induced high-spin transition in double-decker 3d–4f metallacrowns
2019
Element-specific magnetic spin and orbital magnetic moments of $3d\text{\ensuremath{-}}4f$ double-decker metallacrown molecules have been investigated using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. The double-decker metallacrowns comprise one rare-earth Gd(III) or Tb(III) ion embedded between two squared scaffolds of four Ni(II) ions. We observe a strong increase of the Ni(II) moments if the molecules are dissolved in methanol, indicating a spin crossover from a low-spin to a high-spin state. In contrast, dichloromethane does not change the spin state. This result is explained by a change of the coordination environment of nickel. The comparison of charge-transfer multiplet calculations with the …
