Ion conductance changes associated with spike adaptation in the rapidly adapting stretch receptor of the crayfish.

1975

The time course of the repetitive impulse discharges has been investigated for two high intensities of maintained depolarizing currents, 30 nA and 50 nA, for which the receptor adaptation was complete within 70 msec. The changes in sodium and potassium conductance associated with the decline in spike activity have been analyzed at different instances of time by interrupting in successive experiments the various action potentials in the pulse trains either at the early phase by holding the potential at about -60 mV and recording the inward current (upstroke-gNa) or by evaluating the delayed outward current flowing as the result of a depolarizing voltage pulse which at the end of the action p…

The conductance of lithium-7 fluoride in dioxane-water mixtures at 25C

1990

Conductance data for lithium-7 fluoride in dioxane-water mixtures covering the range 78.35>D>36 in dielectric constant are presented. These data and other previous data on lithium-7 chloride and lithium-7 iodide were analyzed by the Fuoss 1980 conductance equation in order to find the limiting conductance Δo, the pairing distance R and the conductometric association constant Kλ. Setting Ka=Kλ/VM (where VM is the molar volume of the solvent), the thermodynamic pairing constant and the corresponding change of the free energy Δg were calculated. Correlation among the values found for R and Δg=Δh−TΔs and the properties characteristic of the ions and solvents are discussed.

Tetrathiafulvalene-based molecular nanowires.

2008

A new molecular wire suitably functionalized with sulfur atoms at terminal positions and endowed with a central redox active TTF unit has been synthesized and inserted within two atomic-sized Au electrodes; electrical transport measurements have been performed in STM and MCBJ set-ups in a liquid environment and reveal conductance values around 10(-2) G0 for a single molecule.

Conductance in isodielectric mixtures. I.n-butyronitrile with dioxane, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride

1974

The conductance of tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylboride, picrate, nitrate, and bromide has been measured at 25°C inn-butyronitrile and in mixtures of this solvent with dioxane, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride covering the range of dielectric constants from 10–24.26. For the picrate, nitrate, and bromide, the association constants at a given dielectric constant are independent of the chemical composition of the solvent. The changes of Walden products with solvent composition, however, are different, depending on which other solvent is mixed with the butyronitrile.

Conductance in isodielectric mixtures. III.i-butyronitrile with chlorobenzene,o-dichlorobenzene,p-dichlorobenzene, 1,2-dichloroethane, andn-pentanol

1975

The conductance of tetrabutylammonium tetraphenylboride, picrate, perchlorate, and nitrate has been measured at 25°C in mixtures ofi-butyronitrile with chlorobenzene,o-dichlorobenzene,p-dicholorobenzene, 1,2-dichloroethane, andn-pentanol covering the range of dielectric constants 10≤D≤20. In these mixtures of polar solvents, both association constants and ionic mobilities depend on ion-solvent interaction energies and on free volume in a manner that is specific for each system. This failure of the primitive model (rigid charged spheres in a continuum) is shown to be the consequence of short-range spatial and energetic interactions between ions and adjacent solvent molecules.

Kinetic modeling of ion conduction in KcsA potassium channel.

2005

KcsA constitutes a potassium channel of known structure that shows both high conduction rates and selectivity among monovalent cations. A kinetic model for ion conduction through this channel that assumes rapid ion transport within the filter has recently been presented by Nelson. In a recent, brief communication, we used the model to provide preliminary explanations to the experimental current-voltage J-V and conductance-concentration g-S curves obtained for a series of monovalent ions (K(+),Tl(+), and Rb(+)). We did not assume rapid ion transport in the calculations, since ion transport within the selectivity filter could be rate limiting for ions other than native K(+). This previous wor…

A pH-tunable nanofluidic diode: electrochemical rectification in a reconstituted single ion channel.

2006

We report pH-dependent electrochemical rectification in a protein ion channel (the bacterial porin OmpF) reconstituted on a planar phospholipid membrane. The measurements performed at single-channel level show that the electric current is controlled by the protein fixed charge and it can be tuned by adjusting the local pH. Under highly asymmetric pH conditions, the channel behaves like a liquid diode. Unlike other nanofluidic devices that display also asymmetric conductance, here the microscopic charge distribution of the system can be explored by using the available high-resolution (2.4 A) channel crystallographic structure. Continuum electrostatics calculations confirm the hypothesized bi…

Validación del cuestionario holandés de comportamiento alimentario (DEBQ-C) para su uso en niños españoles

2011

Introduction: The Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire for children was developed by Van Strien and Oosterveld (2008) to measure three different eating behaviors (emotional eating, restrained eating and external eating); it is an adaptation of the DEBQ for adults. Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the psychometric properties of the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire for Children (DEBQ-C) with a Spanish sample. Method: The DEBQ-C was administered to 473 children (240 boys and 233 girls), from 10 to 14 years old. The sample included a Clinical Overweight Group (COG; n = 81) comprising children who were receiving weight loss treatments, a Non Clinical Overweight Group (NCOG, …

Effects of ozone on photosynthetic CO2 exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence and antioxidant systems in lettuce leaves

2002

The effects of ozone exposure on lettuce leaves were investigated by means of gas exchange, modulated chlorophyll a fluorescence and antioxidants systems. High ozone concentration decreased the rate of photosynthesis at light saturation level and changes in stomatal conductance and transpiration rate. However, an increase in intercellular CO 2 concentration indicated a decrease in the carboxylation efficiency. These data agreed with a reduction of non-cyclic electron flow and lower capacity to reduce the quinone pool. Ozone affected the ascorbate pool and decreased ascorbate peroxidase activity, increased lipid peroxidation, altered membrane properties and reduced the development of non-pho…
