Confocal technology in fluorescence in situ hybridization evaluation for cancer: a diagnostic improvement.

During the cancer routine diagnosis course, we commonly use fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique. FISH studies are conducted for genes amplification analyses (ErBb2/Neu) and also for genes translocation studies such as CMYC, BCL6, or BCL2. Usually, FISH evaluation is carried out with fluorescence microscopy and photographed with sensitive cameras. An alternative technology to the fluorescence microscopy is using the confocal microscopy for the evaluation of these samples. Finely Tuned Temperature-Controlled Cargo Release Using Paraffin-Capped Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

[EN] Trapped: Mesoporous silica nanoparticles were loaded with a fluorescent guest and functionalized with octadecyltrimethoxysilane. The alkyl chains interact with paraffins, which build a hydrophobic layer around the particle (see picture). Upon melting of the paraffin, the guest molecule is released, as demonstrated in cells for the guest doxorubicin. The release temperature can be tuned by choosing an appropriate paraffin. The ability to mechanically control the optical properties of individual molecules is a grand challenge in nanoscience and could enable the manipulation of chemical reactivity at the single-molecule level. Rational assembly and dual functionalization of Au@MnO heteroparticles on TiO2 nanowires

Au–MnO heteroparticles were immobilized on the surface of TiO2 nanowires and tagged subsequently with a fluorescent ligand. The immobilization of the Au@MnO heteroparticles was achieved by functionalizing the TiO2 nanowire support with a polymer containing catechol anchor groups for binding to the metal oxide surface and amine groups for conjugation to the Au domains of the Au@MnO heteroparticles. A simple and straightforward method for the orthogonal functionalisation of upconverting NaYF4 nanocrystals (UCNCs)-doped withYb(3+) and Er(3+)-based on N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N'-ethylcarbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide (EDC/NHS) selective reactions between two dyes and two different reactive groups present at the periphery of the upconverting nanocrystals is reported. Engineered axon tracts within tubular biohybrid scaffolds

[EN] Injuries to the nervous system that involve the disruption of axonal pathways are devastating to the individual and require specific tissue engineering strategies. Here we analyse a cells-biomaterials strategy to overcome the obstacles limiting axon regeneration in vivo, based on the combination of a hyaluronic acid (HA) single-channel tubular conduit filled with poly-L-lactide acid (PLA) fibres in its lumen, with pre-cultured Schwann cells (SCs) as cells supportive of axon extension.
