Ambident PCN Heterocycles: N- and P-Phosphanylation of Lithium 1,3-Benzazaphospholides

Synthetic and structural aspects of the phosphanylation of 1,3-benzazaphospholides 1(Li), ambident benzofused azaphosphacyclopentadienides, are presented. The unusual properties of phospholyl-1,3,2-diazaphospholes inspired us to study the coupling of 1(Li) with chlorodiazaphospholene 2, which led to the N-substituted product 3. Reaction of 1(Li) with chlorodiphenyl- and chlorodicyclohexylphosphane likewise gave N-phosphanylbenzazaphospholes 4 and 5, whereas with the more bulky di-tert-butyl- and di-1-adamantylchlorophosphanes, the diphosphanes 6 and 7 are obtained; in the case of 7 they are isolated as a dimeric LiCl(THF) adduct. The decay channels of singlet excited adenine uracil monophosphate (ApU) in water are studied with CASPT2//CASSCF:MM potential energy calculations and simulation of the 2D-UV spectroscopic fingerprints with the aim of elucidating the role of the different electronic states of the stacked conformer in the excited state dynamics. The adenine 1La state can decay without a barrier to a conical intersection with the ground state. In contrast, the adenine 1Lb and uracil S(U) states have minima that are separated from the intersections by sizeable barriers. We present a united atom force field for simulations of 1,4-polybutadiene based on ab initio quantum chemistry calculations on model molecules. The geometries and energies of conformers and rotational energy barriers in model alkenes and dienes have been determined from high-level quantum chemistry calculations. A rotational isomeric state (RIS) model for 1,4-polybutadiene based on the conformer geometries and energies of the model molecules has been derived. The characteristic ratio and its temperature dependence for cis-1,4-polybutadiene and trans-1,4-polybutadiene, and the characteristic ratio of a random copolymer of cis and trans units, as predicted by the RIS model, are in good agreem…
Pressure induced changes in the Raman spectra of liquidn-alkanes and perfluoro-n-alkanes

The main effect of pressures up to 6 kbar on the Raman spectra of liquidn-alkanes and perfluoro-n-alkanes is a reduction of line widths indicative for a slowing-down of rotational motions about the long axes. There is no evidence for a change in the conformer populations.
Structure Determination of Photoproducts of Anthracenes with (Arylmethoxymethyl) Sidechains

Irradiation of 9-(arylmethoxymethyl)anthracenes 3 leads either to a cyclomer and cyclodimer mixture (3a 4a,5a), to selectively formed dimers (3b 5b), or a selectively formed cyclomer (3c 4c). The [4π+4π]cyclodimerization is under the conditions used a regioselective head-to-tail process. In the crystals of the dimers 5a,b, the sidechains are attached in an antiperiplanar position related to the CC bonds generated in the dimerization. In solutions, however, the structures consist of three rotamers the equilibration of which was studied by temperature-dependent NMR spectra. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The syntheses and electrochemistry of thieno[3',4'r5,6][1,4]dithiino[2,3-b]quinoxaline (9), 2,3-bis(methylsulfanyl)[1,4]dithiino[2,3-b]quinoxaline (16) and 2,3-ethylenedisulfanyl[1,4]dithiino[2,3-b]quinoxaline (17) are reported, together with the X-ray crystal structures of 9, 16 and the charge-transfer complex 9.TCNQ. In the thieno derivative 9, the molecular structure undergoes a significant change from a boat conformer to a planar system, upon oxidation with TCNQ. Theoretical calculations show that oxidation leads to planarisation of the molecular structure due to the aromatisation of the dithiine moiety. Different force fields and approximate density functional theory were applied in order to study the rotamer space of the telomeric G-quadruplex DNA. While some force fields show an erratic behavior when it comes to the reproduction of the higher-order DNA conformer space, OPLS and MMFF implementations are able to reproduce the experimentally known energy order. The stabilizing effect of the AA (anti−anti) versus SA (syn−anti) conformer is analyzed applying mechanical bond strength descriptors (compliance constants). The (S,S,S,S) and (R,R,R,R) enantiomers of tetramethyl-bis(ethylenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene (TM-BEDT-TTF) show equatorial conformation for the four methyl groups in the solid state, according to the single-crystal X-ray analyses. Theoretical calculations at the Density Functional Theory (DFT) and time-dependent (TD) DFT levels indicate higher gas phase stability for the axial conformer than the equatorial one by 1.25kcal center dot mole-1 and allow the assignment of the UV-vis and circular dichroism transitions. Dehydrobutyrine is the most naturally occurring dehydroamino acid. It is also the simplest dehydroamino acid having the geometrical isomers E/Z. To investigate its conformational properties, a theoretical analysis was performed on N-acetyl-α,β-dehydrobutyrine N′-methylamides, Ac-(E)-ΔAbu-NHMe and Ac-(Z)-ΔAbu-NHMe, as well as the dehydrovaline derivative Ac-ΔVal-NHMe. The ϕ, ψ potential energy surfaces and the localised conformers were calculated at the B3LYP/6-311 + + G(d,p) level of theory both in vacuo and with inclusion of the solvent (chloroform, water) effect (SCRF method).
