Conical upper density theorems and porosity of measures

2008

Abstract We study how measures with finite lower density are distributed around ( n − m ) -planes in small balls in R n . We also discuss relations between conical upper density theorems and porosity. Our results may be applied to a large collection of Hausdorff and packing type measures.

Ionic conduction, rectification, and selectivity in single conical nanopores

Modern track-etching methods allow the preparation of membranes containing a single charged conical nanopore that shows high ionic permselectivity due to the electrical interactions of the surface pore charges with the mobile ions in the aqueous solution. The nanopore has potential applications in electrically assisted single-particle detection, analysis, and separation of biomolecules. We present a detailed theoretical and experimental account of the effects of pore radii and electrolyte concentration on the current-voltage and current-concentration curves. On the FCNS⇆FC(NS) reaction: A matrix isolation and theoretical study

Abstract The FCNS ⇆ FC(NS) photoisomerization process is a simple model system for molecular switches. Here, we examined the switching processes by experimental and theoretical methods. Prior matrix-isolation IR spectroscopic studies were complemented by matrix-isolation UV spectroscopic measurements to assist the interpretation of the mechanism of the ring closure and opening processes and to verify the accuracy of the computations on the vertical excitation energies. Vertical excitation energies were computed by the EOMEE-CCSD, MCSCF, and MR-CISD methods. Modulation of current-time traces by two-pore arrangements of polyimide nanofluidic diodes

Liquid state arrangements of two polymeric membranes with single conical nanopores constitute nanofluidic diodes that allow a rich electrical functionality based on the modulation of individual conductances in aqueous electrolyte solutions. In particular, the prescribed sequences of current-time traces can be obtained by preprogramed switching between series and parallel pore connection arrangements. FILTER RESPONSE OF RESONANT WAVEGUIDE DIELECTRIC GRATINGS AT PLANE-WAVE CONICAL INCIDENCE

An accurate and efficient formulation is presented for the electromagnetic analysis of dielectric waveguide gratings under plane-wave conical incidence. An arbitrary number of dielectric bars can be placed inside each one-dimension periodic cell, including the effect of dielectric losses. The reflectance of a dielectric waveguide grating under conical incidence is compared with theoretical results presented by other authors, finding a very good agreement. Conical connection adjustment in prosthetic abutments obtained by different techniques

Background The goal of this study is to compare the misfit (>150µm) generated once the restoration, made by different techniques, is retained to a single conical implant. Material and methods 15 internal connection implants (MIS C1 4'20x10mm) are embedded each one perpendicularly to an horizontal surface of the 1x1x2cm poliuretan resin model. The 15 samples obtained are divided in 5 groups depending on the framework process (n=3): 1/casting, 2/overcasting, 3/Ti-base, 4/milling and 5/laser sintering. Core-shifts and proper-motion constraints in the S5 polar cap sample at the 15 and 43 GHz bands

We have studied a complete radio sample of active galactic nuclei with the very-long-baseline-interferometry (VLBI) technique and for the first time successfully obtained high-precision phase-delay astrometry atQband (43 GHz) from observations acquired in 2010. We have compared our astrometric results with those obtained with the same technique atUband (15 GHz) from data collected in 2000. Jet stability and the generation of superluminal and stationary components

We present a numerical simulation of the response of an expanding relativistic jet to the ejection of a superluminal component. The simulation has been performed with a relativistic time-dependent hydrodynamical code from which simulated radio maps are computed by integrating the transfer equations for synchrotron radiation. The interaction of the superluminal component with the underlying jet results in the formation of multiple conical shocks behind the main perturbation. These trailing components can be easily distinguished because they appear to be released from the primary superluminal component, instead of being ejected from the core. Can coupled-cluster theory treat conical intersections?

Conical intersections between electronic states are of great importance for the understanding of radiationless ultrafast relaxation processes. In particular, accidental degeneracies of hypersurfaces, i.e., between states of the same symmetry, become increasingly relevant for larger molecular systems. Coupled-cluster theory, including both single and multireference based schemes, offers a size-extensive description of the electronic wave function, but it sacrifices the Hermitian character of the theory. Focal squeeze in axicons

2005

The on-axis irradiance distribution of a truncated conical wavefront is evaluated in terms of the Fresnel number of the focusing geometry. In agreement with geometrical optics, a focal line of increasing intensity is generated for extremely high Fresnel numbers. Otherwise clear deviations may be observed for the position of the maximum irradiance along the optical axis. A remarkable focal squeeze appears and, for decreasing Fresnel numbers, this effect manifests stronger. An analytical formula is provided for the fast evaluation of the focal squeeze.
