Clinical and esthetic outcome with immediate insertion and provisionalization with or without connective tissue grafting in presence of mucogingival …

2017

Background Recessions following immediate implant insertion are frequently reported in the literature. Data regarding implant installation in presence of mucogingival recessions are rare. Purpose This study observes soft tissue level changes following immediate implant insertion and provisionalization of implants with or without connective tissue grafts in the anterior maxilla in patients with initial mucogingival recession within a follow-up period between one and eight years. Materials and methods Twenty-six patients with marginal gingival recessions, which were designated for extraction and immediate implant insertion in the anterior zone of the maxilla (13-23), were included. Out of a l…

Diagnostic significance of SARS-CoV-2 IgM positive/IgG negative antibody profile in symptomatic patients with suspected COVID-19 testing negative by …

2020

An outbreak of new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was occurred in Wuhan, China and rapidly spread to other cities and nations. The standard diagnostic approach that widely adopted in the clinic is nucleic acid detection by real-time RT-PCR. However, the false-negative rate of the technique is unneglectable and serological methods are urgently warranted. Here, we presented the colloidal gold-based immunochromatographic (ICG) strip targeting viral IgM or IgG antibody and compared it with real-time RT-PCR. The sensitivity of ICG assay with IgM and IgG combinatorial detection in nucleic acid confirmed cases were 11.1%, 92.9% and 96.8% at the early stage (1-7 days after onset), intermediate stage (8-14 …

Pathological mandibular fracture after simple molar extraction in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta treated with alendronate

2009

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), is a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders of connective tissue characterized by bone fragility. Patients with this disease frequently suffer fractures, over 80% of the extremities due to the more intensive mechanical load. Fractures of the facial bones occur very infrequently. Several studies have proved that bisphosphonate therapy may be effective in reducing fracture risk in OI patients. We report here an unusual case of pathological mandibular fracture following simple molar extraction in an adult patient with OI type I and oral alendronic acid treatment. Extraction was atraumatical and without bone removal . Fracture was treated by internal fixation b…

Morphology and dimensions of the dentogingival unit in the altered passive eruption.

2011

Objetives: This study define altered passive eruption (APE) and evaluate the morphology of the dentogingival unit. Material and Methods: 123 individuals subjected to clinical examination and parallel profile radiography of the upper central incisor. An evaluation was made of the correlation between the clinical diagnosis of APE and the degree of gingival overlap; by using a 19% overlap to define APE (Kappa concordance index = 0.7). The Mann-Whitney / Wilcoxon test was used to identify the variables influencing APE. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed between the teeth with and without APE: gingival width (p = 0.0073), clinical crown length (p = 0.0000), smiling expo…

Phase II Study of Bevacizumab in Combination with Trastuzumab and Capecitabine as First-Line Treatment for HER-2-positive Locally Recurrent or Metast…

2012

Abstract We report the first results from a phase II, open-label study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab in combination with trastuzumab and capecitabine as first-line therapy for human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER)-2-positive locally recurrent (LR) or metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Patients were aged ≥18 years with confirmed breast adenocarcinoma, measurable LR/MBC and documented HER-2-positive disease. Patients received bevacizumab (15 mg/kg on day 1) plus trastuzumab (8 mg/kg on day 1 of cycle 1, 6 mg/kg on day 1 of each subsequent cycle) plus capecitabine (1,000 mg/m2 twice daily, days 1–14) every 3 weeks until disease progression, unacceptable toxici…

Clinical and pathologic characteristics of BRCA-positive and BRCA-negative male breast cancer patients: results from a collaborative multicenter stud…

2012

Recently, the number of studies on male breast cancer (MBC) has been increasing. However, as MBC is a rare disease there are difficulties to undertake studies to identify specific MBC subgroups. At present, it is still largely unknown whether BRCA-related breast cancer (BC) in men may display specific characteristics as it is for BRCA-related BC in women. To investigate the clinical–pathologic features of MBC in association with BRCA mutations we established a collaborative Italian Multicenter Study on MBC with the aim to recruit a large series of MBCs. A total of 382 MBCs, including 50 BRCA carriers, were collected from ten Italian Investigation Centres covering the whole country. In MBC p…

Multicentre phase II trial of trastuzumab and capecitabine in patients with HER2 overexpressing metastatic pancreatic cancer

2012

Background: New therapeutic options for metastatic pancreatic cancer are urgently needed. In pancreatic cancer, overexpression of the epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) has been reported in up to 45%. This multicentre phase II study investigated the efficacy and toxicity of the HER2 antibody trastuzumab combined with capecitabine in the patients with pancreatic cancer and HER2 overexpression. Methods: Primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) after 12 weeks. A total of 212 patients were screened for HER2 expression. Results: Immunohistochemical (IHC) HER2 expression was: 83 (40%) grade 0, 71 (34%) grade 1, 31 (15%) grade 2, 22 (11%) grade 3. A total of 17 patients with IHC…

High prevalence of BRCA1 deletions in BRCAPRO-positive patients with high carrier probability.

2007

Mutation screening of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes in probands with familial breast/ovarian cancer has been greatly improved by the multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) assay able to evidence gene rearrangements not detectable by standard screening methods. However, no criteria for selection of cases to be submitted to the MLPA test have been reported yet. We used the BRCAPro software for the selection of familial breast/ovarian cancer probands investigated with the MLPA approach after negative BRCA1/2 conventional mutation screening. One hundred and seventy-seven probands were investigated for germline BRCA1/2 mutations after assessment of genetic risk using BRCAPro. Proban…

Cachexia induces head and neck changes in locally advanced oropharyngeal carcinoma during definitive cisplatin and image-guided volumetric-modulated …

2015

Cancer cachexia is a syndrome characterized by weight loss (WL) and sarcopenia. Aim of the study was to assess the impact of cachexia on head and neck changes during definitive cisplatin and image-guided volumetric-modulated arc radiation therapy in a series of locally advanced oropharyngeal cancer.Volume variations of sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) were considered as surrogate of muscle changes related to sarcopenia. Two head and neck diameters, encompassing the cranial limits of II and III nodal levels (defined as 'head diameter' and 'neck diameter', respectively), were measured. All parameters were defined retrospectively by means of on-board cone beam computed tomography images at 1-8…
