Paraconsistent logics, conventionalism and ontology

2004

Paraconsistent logics may be viewed as one of the last elements in a series of rapid developments in science in the 19th and early 20th c., triggered by the appearance of non-Euclidean geometries. The philosophy of conventionalism, which gave a metatheoretical framework to the basic changes involved, may also help in evaluating the truth import of (paraconsistent) logic and in determining its relation to ontology.

Self‐consistent intermediate Hamiltonians : A coupled cluster type formulation of the singles and doubles configuration interaction matrix dressing

1995

This paper presents a new self‐consistent dressing of a singles and doubles configuration interaction matrix which insures size‐consistency, separability into closed‐shell subsystems if localized molecular orbitals (MOs) are used, and which includes all fourth order corrections. This method yields, among several schemes, a reformulation of the coupled cluster method, including fully the cluster operators of single and double excitations, and partially those of the triples (Bartlett’s algorithm named CCSDT‐1a). Further improvement can be easily included by adding exclusion principle violating corrections. Since it leads to a matrix diagonalization, the method behaves correctly in case of nea…

Solution of self-consistent equations for the N3LO nuclear energy density functional in spherical symmetry. The program hosphe (v1.02)

2010

Abstract We present solution of self-consistent equations for the N 3 LO nuclear energy density functional. We derive general expressions for the mean fields expressed as differential operators depending on densities and for the densities expressed in terms of derivatives of wave functions. These expressions are then specified to the case of spherical symmetry. We also present the computer program hosphe (v1.02), which solves the self-consistent equations by using the expansion of single-particle wave functions on the spherical harmonic oscillator basis. Fully self-consistent calculations of nuclear Schiff moments

2010

We calculate the Schiff moments of the nuclei 199Hg and 211Ra in completely self-consistent odd-nucleus mean-field theory by modifying the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov code HFODD. We allow for arbitrary shape deformation, and include the effects of nucleon dipole moments alongside those of a CP-violating pion-exchange nucleon-nucleon interaction. The results for 199Hg differ significantly from those of previous calculations when the CP-violating interaction is of isovector character.

Experimental verification of a self-consistent calculation for continuous frequency-tune with a 400 GHz band second harmonic gyro-BWO

2013

A self-consistent code is introduced to develop a continuous frequency tunable gyro-BWO. A cavity is designed with TE8,5 mode for 400 GHz band second harmonic oscillation. The experimental verification has been carried out and 2 GHz tunability is observed with output powers of higher than 40 W.

Density-functional based tight-binding study of small gold clusters

2006

In this paper, we report the ability of self-consistent-charge density-functional based tight-binding method to describe small gold clusters. We concentrate our investigations mainly on anions, and find that the method describes their geometric and electronic structures fairly well, in comparison with density-functional calculations. In particular, the method correctly reproduces the planarity of ground-state structures up to cluster sizes in agreement with experiment and density-functional theory.

On the Influence of PRNGs on Data Distribution

2012

The amount of digital information produced grows rapidly and constantly. Storage systems use clustered architectures designed to store and process this information efficiently. Their use introduces new challenges in storage systems development, like load-balancing and data distribution. A variety of randomized solutions handling data placement issues have been proposed and utilized. However, to the best of our knowledge, there has not yet been a structured analysis of the influence of pseudo random number generators (PRNGs) on the data distribution. In the first part of this paper we consider Consistent Hashing [1] as a combination of two consecutive phases: distribution of bins and distrib…

Probabilistic foundations of contextuality

2017

Contextuality is usually defined as absence of a joint distribution for a set of measurements (random variables) with known joint distributions of some of its subsets. However, if these subsets of measurements are not disjoint, contextuality is mathematically impossible even if one generally allows (as one must) for random variables not to be jointly distributed. To avoid contradictions one has to adopt the Contextuality-by-Default approach: measurements made in different contexts are always distinct and stochastically unrelated to each other. Contextuality is reformulated then in terms of the (im)possibility of imposing on all the measurements in a system a joint distribution of a particul…

Contextuality Analysis of the Double Slit Experiment (With a Glimpse Into Three Slits)

2018

The Contextuality-by-Default theory is illustrated on contextuality analysis of the idealized double-slit experiment. The experiment is described by a system of contextually labeled binary random variables each of which answers the question: has the particle hit the detector, having passed through a given slit (left or right) in a given state (open or closed)? This system of random variables is a cyclic system of rank 4, formally the same as the system describing the EPR/Bell paradigm with signaling. Unlike the latter, however, the system describing the double-slit experiment is always noncontextual, i.e., the context-dependence in it is entirely explainable in terms of direct influences of…
