Self-discrepancy and impulse buying: an exploratory study

Nowadays, consumer behavior is more sophisticated and complex than before. In this study, I attempt to analyze the relationship between impulse buying (consumerʼs emotional side of the consumption) and an individualʼs self-discrepancy (the difference between what one is and what one would like to be). I propose that a consumer uses impulse buying to lift oneʼs self up and remove oneʼs self-discrepancy. Results from a sample of consumers in Spain established that a consumer experienced self-discrepancy was likely to have impulse buying. Quality attributes of cactus pear fruit and their role in consumer choice

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to detect what experience and credence quality attributes contribute to the consumer decision to consume cactus pear fruit. The authors therefore try to measure the effect of each quality attribute on consumer choice. Design/methodology/approach – As a theoretical basis, two principal quality attributes emphasised in the literature on consumer behaviour were analysed and adjusted to the specific fruit features. Abstract The purpose of this work is to identify and analyze consumer resistance in order to understand this concept in the area of resistant behavior. The paper converges on studying the resistance to innovation from a theoretical perspective and to show it importance in innovation process. The paper concludes bydescribing the complexity of resistance to innovation, its forms and effects on the behavior of consumers and market. Although most authors focus their research on positive adoption decisions, this paper instead focus on developing insight into the relatively underdeveloped area of resistant behavior literature by presenting key concepts of resistance to innovation.

It is widely accepted that a framework is necessary to regulate advertising activities. Advertising has a responsibility within our economic system, to provide information on new and existing products and services. Economic health of both buyers and competitors is affected if the advertising system is injected with false or misleading claims. Thus, Government and self-regulation associations should create a set of rules which define and control the behaviour of the advertising companies. Taking into account the power attributed to advertising for influencing consumer behaviour, some of those mentioned rules are established to protect the audience.
