Pore shape affects the determination of the pore size of ordered mesoporous silicas by mercury intrusion.

MCM-41 and SBA-15 micelle-templated silicas are ideal reference materials to study the effect of surface roughness on pore size measurement by mercury intrusion, as the inner surface of the mesoporous channels is much rougher in the case of SBA-15 than MCM-41. In the case of MCM-41, the pressure of mercury intrusion is related to the pore size by the classical Washburn−Laplace law, while in the case of SBA-15, the pressure of intrusion is much higher than expected and classical models underevaluate the size of the channels. Non-parametric mean curvature flow with prescribed contact angle in Riemannian products

Assuming that there exists a translating soliton $u_\infty$ with speed $C$ in a domain $\Omega$ and with prescribed contact angle on $\partial\Omega$, we prove that a graphical solution to the mean curvature flow with the same prescribed contact angle converges to $u_\infty +Ct$ as $t\to\infty$. We also generalize the recent existence result of Gao, Ma, Wang and Weng to non-Euclidean settings under suitable bounds on convexity of $\Omega$ and Ricci curvature in $\Omega$.
Effect of relative humidity on carvacrol release and permeation properties of chitosan based films and coating

International audience; The influence of water vapour conditions on mass transport and barrier properties of chitosan based films and coatings were studied in relation to surface and structural properties. Water contact angles, material swelling, polymer degradation temperature, barrier properties (PO2, PCO2, WVP) and aroma diffusion coefficients were determined. The solvent nature and the presence of carvacrol influenced the surface and structural properties and then the barrier performance of activated chitosan films. Dynamics of a Spreading Nanodroplet: A Molecular Dynamic Simulation

The spreading of polymer nanodroplets upon a sudden change from partial to complete wetting on an ideally flat and structureless solid substrate has been studied by molecular dynamic simulations using a coarse-grained bead-spring model of flexible macromolecules. Tanner's law for the growth of the lateral droplet radius {R(f) t 0.1 } is found to hold as long as the droplet does not disintegrate into individually moving chains. The data for the contact angle θ following from Tanner's law correspond to a dependence on time {θ(t) t -0.3 }. Mixed silane self assembled monolayers and their in situ modification

Mixed self assembled silane monolayers were prepared by coadsorption of Br and methyl terminated trichlorosilanes. By subsequent in situ modification the Br groups were converted into amino groups which can be used to tether polyglutamates to the surface. Here we describe the characterization of the monolayers by means of contact angle measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Both methods clearly indicate that the Br terminated silane is preferentially adsorbed from the solution. Mono-component and composite bilayer and blend films composed of chitosan and whey protein were made. Colour, microstructure, water contact angles, swelling, water vapour sorption, barrier properties (oxygen, water vapour), water vapour diffusion coefficients and mechanical properties were determined. The influence of water vapour on barrier properties was studied in relation to the surface and structural properties. Mono-component and bilayer films were transparent with a homogeneous surface. Exploring corrosion protection properties of alkyd@lanthanide bis-phthalocyanine nanocomposite coatings

Organic coatings have been widely used to protect carbon steel pipelines from external corrosion; however, they often suffer from permeability and weak adhesion. Here we show that synthetic lanthanide bis-phthalocyanine complexes, LnPc2 (Ln = lanthanide metal, Pc = C32H16N8 denotes the phthalocyanine ligand) can be used to form new nanocomposite coatings to provide corrosion protection to the underlying carbon steel pipelines.
