The Multi-period Multi-trip Container Drayage Problem with Release and Due Dates

2021

Abstract The Container Drayage Problem (CDP) aims at routing a fleet of trucks, based at a common terminal, to serve customers while minimizing the total travel distance. Each trip starts from and ends at the terminal, and handles a subset of customers. Each customer requires either that a container is picked up or delivered. We introduce a more realistic variant, i.e., the Multi-trip Multi-period CDP with Release and Due Dates (MM-CDP-RDD), in which the planning horizon is composed of several periods (days). On each day, each truck may perform more than one trip respecting the Release and Due Dates (RDD) associated with customer services, corresponding to the first and the last day on whic…

Spacing and Organizing: Process Approaches to the Study of Organizational Space

2018

In the past several decades, the research on space in management studies has moved from being an implicit idea to becoming an important generative force in organizational theory. Through this turn, space no longer surfaces as a stable container in which organizing occurs, rather it is a process for enacting organizing. Even with the growth of studies on organizational space, only a modicum of work exists that aims to distill and theorize the notion of space as organizing. This paper sets forth a typology of process studies on organizational space linked to two dimensions and five approaches for conceiving of space as organizing. In offering this typology, it not only provides an overview of…

Urban structure changes and environmental factors of Valencian Community towns as potentital drivers of the House Sparrow decline

2021

THE DESIGN OF WAITING AREAS TO OPTIMIZE THE STORAGE CAPACITY IN THE MARINE INTERMODAL TERMINALS

2009

The appropriate sizing of storage areas to optimize the management of intermodal transport, the adoption of environment protection systems and the appropriate flow’s regulations inside manoeuvre’s zones can solve many problems encountered today in a intermodal marine terminal. For these reasons the “integrated design” of storage areas for vehicles and containers is considered essential to ensure efficiency and functionality for all harbour-system. So is here proposed a simulative model as a tool for a more correct design of waiting areas by considering the real stochastic conditions of the process of the arrivals. For the sizing of areas for containers in the harbours, it is necessary to re…

Evaluation of user experience goal fulfillment

2014

In this paper, the results of a user experience (UX) goal evaluation study are reported. The study was carried out as a part of a research and development project of a novel remote operator station (ROS) for container gantry crane operation in port yards. The objectives of the study were both to compare the UXs of two different user interface concepts and to give feedback on how well the UX goals experience of safe operation, sense of control, and feeling of presence are fulfilled with the developed ROS prototype. According to the results, the experience of safe operation and feeling of presence were not supported with the current version of the system. However, there was much better suppor…

A homemade device for linear sucrose gradients

2008

We have developed a simple and inexpensive device to obtain linear sucrose gradients with commonly used laboratory materials--a syringe, a flask, a plastic tube, and a piece of Pongo (Play-Doh). Refractive index values measured on sucrose fractions collected using our system demonstrate both the linearity and reliability of the gradients obtained.

Structural properties of concave cylindrical brushes interacting with free chains

2011

We present a self-consistent field theoretical study of the microstructure of concave cylindrical brushes as a function of the cylinder radius, grafting density, grafted chain length, and the solvent quality. We show that the results for the radial monomer density profile and the distribution of the free ends are in good agreement with the corresponding molecular dynamics results. Part of the investigation is focused on the conformational behavior of a free macromolecule in a cylindrical brush. A central result is the observed non-monotonous variation of the size of a free chain in a brush-coated tube when the tube radius is systematically changed. An interpretation of this behavior which d…

A gearbox model for processing large volumes of data by using pipeline systems encapsulated into virtual containers

2020

Software pipelines enable organizations to chain applications for adding value to contents (e.g., confidentially, reliability, and integrity) before either sharing them with partners or sending them to the cloud. However, the pipeline components add overhead when processing large volumes of data, which can become critical in real-world scenarios. This paper presents a gearbox model for processing large volumes of data by using pipeline systems encapsulated into virtual containers. In this model, the gears represent applications, whereas gearboxes represent software pipelines. This model was implemented as a collaborative system that automatically performs Gear up (by using parallel patterns…

A beam search algorithm for minimizing crane times in premarshalling problems

2022

The premarshalling problem consists of sorting the containers placed in a bay of the container yard so that they can be retrieved in the order in which they will be required. We study the premarshalling problem with crane time minimization objective and develop a beam search algorithm, with some new elements adapted to the characteristics of the problem, to solve it. We propose various evaluation criteria, depending on the type of container movement, for its local evaluation; a new heuristic algorithm including local search for blue its global evaluation; and several new dominance rules. The computational study shows the contribution of each new element. The performance of the complete algo…

Fontaines (Saône-et-Loire). Place de l’Église [notice archéologique]

2019
