A critical assessment of automatic photoelastic methods for the analysis of edge residual stresses in glass

The measurement of residual stresses is of great importance in the glass industry. The analysis of residual stresses in the glass is usually carried out by photoelastic methods since the glass is a photoelastic material. This article considers the determination of membrane residual stresses of glass plates by digital photoelasticity. In particular, it presents a critical assessment concerning the automated methods based on gray-field polariscope, spectral content analysis, phase shifting, RGB photoelasticity, “test fringes” methods and “tint plate” method. These methods can effectively automate manual methods currently specified in some standards.

Social media has revolutionized political communication. It offers political parties a mass communication channel that lets them customize and create direct communication with citizens. This study analyses the posts of the main Spanish political parties on their Facebook pages during the 2015 general elections campaign. We quantitatively analyse the parties’ frequency of publication on this social network and the content of their messages through a computerized content analysis. This chapter describes the methodology, methods, and analytical schemes developed for and applied to the case study of the contrade of Siena. It presents no general research design, but, rather, demonstrates a possible method for designing one. The author suggests that “virtual ethnography” and “Netnography ” provide convincing methodological foundations for the establishment of research designs that can be combined with a phenomenological theoretical perspective. Information Content Analysis of TV Advertising - The Spanish Case

Atter analyzing the information content of 477 ads aired by the two main Spanish TV channels we found that not all ads provided objective information, but that the proportion of informative ads and the amount of information carried by them seems to be greater than in other countries of our economic environment. There were no significant differences in informative content between the two channels, but there were differences with regard to product categories advertised. Future research could be directed towards expanding the categories for information analysis of TV ads given their continued presence in the life of the average consumer.
Teacher competencies in game-based pedagogy

This study examines what kind of competencies teachers need in using game-based pedagogy (GBP). In our conceptual framework, GBP entails four approaches: using educational games or entertainment games, learning by making games, and using gamification in learning. Our data, consisting of teachers’ documentation, thematic interviews and questionnaires, were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Four main competence areas were identified: pedagogical, technological, collaborative and creative.
