Integrating miniMin-HSP agents in a dynamic simulation framework

In this paper, we describe the framework created for implementing AI-based animations for artificial actors in the context of IVE (Intelligent Virtual Environments). The minMin-HSP (Heuristic Search Planner) planner presented in [12] has been updated to deal with 3D dynamic simulation environments, using the sensory/actuator system fully implemented in UnrealTM and presented in [10]. Seam-Based Edge Blending for Multi-Projection Systems

Perceptual seamlessness of large-scale tiled displays is still a challenge. One way to avoid Bezel effects from contiguous displays is to blend superimposed parts of the image over the edges. This work proposes a new approach for edge blending. It is based on intensity edge blending adapted on the seam description of the image content. The main advantage of this method is to reduce visual artifacts thanks to context adaptation and smooth transitions. We evaluate the quality of the method with a perceptual experiment where it is compared with state-of-the-art methods. Resolving ambiguities in a grounded human-robot interaction

In this paper we propose a trainable system that learns grounded language models from examples with a minimum of user intervention and without feedback. We have focused on the acquisition of grounded meanings of spatial and adjective/noun terms. The system has been used to understand and subsequently to generate appropriate natural language descriptions of real objects and to engage in verbal interactions with a human partner. We have also addressed the problem of resolving eventual ambiguities arising during verbal interaction through an information theoretic approach.

When diagnosing patients suffering from dementia based on imaging data like PET scans, the identification of suitable predictive regions of interest (ROIs) is of great importance. We present a case study of 3-D Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for the detection of ROIs in this context, just using voxel data, without any knowledge given a priori. Our results on data from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) suggest that the predictive performance of the method is on par with that of state-of-the-art methods, with the additional benefit of potential insights into affected brain regions.
Texture Classification with Generalized Fourier Descriptors in Dimensionality Reduction Context: An Overview Exploration

In the context of texture classification, this article explores the capacity and the performance of some combinations of feature extraction, linear and nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques and several kinds of classification methods. The performances are evaluated and compared in term of classification error. In order to test our texture classification protocol, the experiment carried out images from two different sources, the well known Brodatz database and our leaf texture images database.

Multiword Units in Machine Translation and Translation Technology

This article describes a new word alignment gold standard for German nominal compounds and their multiword translation equivalents in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The gold standard contains alignments for each of the ten language pairs, resulting in a total of 8,229 bidirectional alignments. It covers 362 occurrences of 137 different German compounds randomly selected from the corpus of European Parliament plenary sessions, sampled according to the criteria of frequency and morphological complexity.
