Relationship between score and coaches’ verbal behavior

2013

Calpe V, Guzman J, Grijalbo C. Relationship between score and coaches’ verbal behaviour. J. Hum. Sport Exerc. Vol. 8, No. Proc3, pp. S728-S737, 2013. The way the coach act the most during the development of the game is meanwhile verbal behaviour directed to their players (Moreno et al., 2000), being it influenced by his own cognitions, motivations, and emotions, together with players behaviours and playing situation (Borrie, 1996; Smoll & Smith, 1989). The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between a situational variable, the score during the game, and verbal behaviour of handball coaches in competitive situation. To do this, five coaches were analysed in five games. Two vari…

Cognitive skills and Finnish language inflection

1987

Covariation of cognitive processes and mastery of inflectional forms assessed by Berko's method were studied among 2.6–4.3-year-old children. The erroneous inflections produced by the children were analysed in order to discover rules underlying their morphological test responses. The use of the different rules was guided by the children's age and cognitive skills. The effects of contextual task factors varied at different mastery levels of the morphological test. The results indicate the need for concomitant analysis of the interaction between the child's existing level of morphology, cognitive skills and contextual variables of the tasks.

“You Can Stand Under My Umbrella”: Immersion, CLIL and Bilingual Education. A Response to Cenoz, Genesee & Gorter (2013)

2014

Classrooms the world over are full of people who, for different reasons, are learning additional languages and/or are studying through languages that are not their first. Gaining insight into such contexts is complicated for researchers and practitioners alike by the myriad of contextual variables that come with different implementations and make comparison and generalization a tricky business. We welcome Cenoz et al.’s (2013) article as an important contribution to the debate on how best to tackle this problem. In this Forum piece we would like to, however, redress the balance on two issues: the fact that terminologies have histories and the emphases on the research agenda suggested for fu…

Playing tactics, contextual variables and offensive effectiveness in English Premier League soccer matches. A multilevel analysis.

2020

The aim of this study was to investigate the combined effects of tactical and contextual indicators on achieving offensive penetration and scoring opportunities in English Premier League (EPL) soccer matches. A total of 1971 team possessions from 20 random matches were evaluated by means of multidimensional observation. The EPL matches had a great proportion of fast attacks (36.0%) followed by combinative (29.6%), direct attacks (24.1%) and counterattacks (9.5%). Multilevel logistic regression models revealed that counterattacks (OR = 3.428; 95% CI: 2.004–5.864; P<0.001) were more effective to create goal scoring opportunities than combinative attacks, while direct attacks showed to be less…

How to empower women’s entrepreneurship? An analysis of women’s sport employment and contextual variables in European Union countries using a fuzzy a…

2021

Although the number of women entrepreneurs has increased in recent years, it is still lower than that of men. In addition, although the sports sector has been characterized by its growth in recent years and contributes to the GDP of the countries by generating employment, the role that this has within female entrepreneurship has never been analysed. Therefore, the objective of this study is to know the combinations of conditions (female employment in sports, government support, financing for entrepreneurs, perception of entrepreneurial opportunities and capacities, glass ceiling index and masculine values in society) that generate high levels of female entrepreneurship in the countries of t…

Contingent reward leader behaviour: Where does it come from?

2010

As many academics have pointed out, while researchers have learned a great deal about the effects of contingent reward (CR) leader behaviour, relatively little is known about its genesis. CR transactional leadership is traditionally viewed as an independent variable which exerts influence downstream. However, if we are to understand how to influence, improve or modify these downstream effects, we need to shift our focus upstream towards the study of transactional leadership as a dependent variable. In line with this reasoning, we put forward the hypothesis that a contextual variable (organizational learning capability) and a subordinate's characteristic (employability) are antecedents of CR…

"Having a drink in a bar": An immersive approach to explore the effects of context on drink choice

2013

UT: 000315557500004; International audience; This paper aims to evaluate the effect of context on food choices. Two studies are presented to test the potential of an immersive approach to help understanding contextual influences on drink choices. To generate contextual effects, two bar-like environments based on the idea of "having a drink in a bar" were created: one with wood furniture and one with blue furniture. In both immersive bars, clips with visual and music stimuli were projected on a wall to change the overall warmth of the ambience. In the first study, five different clips were projected. Participants in the immersive bars had to choose a drink within a large range of drinks for …

Why do people share knowledge in online social Q&A communities?

2017

As there is increasing volume of knowledge with the development of technology and human intelligence, it is a fast and efficient way for individuals to get knowledge from others’ sharing. Therefore, it is of significant importance to understand why people are willing to share their knowledge and in this paper the context of online social Q&A communities are discussed. A measurement model is established to test variables from the perspectives of intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, personal variables, members’ perceptions about the community, factors that may discourage knowledge contribution. 12 variables including reputation, expected associations, self-efficacy, norm of reciprocity…
