De quelques difficultés à cumuler ses savoirs sur les phénomènes éducatifs : l'exemple de la démocratisation de l'enseignement

2002

This paper aims at showing the difficulties regarding the building up of knowledge about educational processes, especially as far as democratization is concerned. The stake here is to boost the scientific character of results in educational research, and therefore its legitimacy and its influence upon educational policies. The authors stress the importance of the historical context of data, the leading part of conceptualization, so that the structural changes of schooling may be grasped, and also the impact of technical measures upon factual knowledge. Finally, the issue of data, a difficult one in that field like in other ones, is illustrated by the analysis of the relation between "ZEP" (…

Utebarnehager – et sted for demokratisk praksis?

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Nordisk barnehageforskning. Also available from the publisher at: http://www.nordiskbarnehageforskning.no/ Open access The questions in the title is posed to discuss how an outdoor kindergarten space is contextualized and understood by those who are staying there. Nature is often seen as an especially open space, free from strong guidelines and structures. Being part of an educational practice gives the place new structures. The activities the children participate in and the employees expressed attitudes and practices are part of different discourses, which give certain limits or possibilities for what is going on at the Hut, and thus influenc…

Presenting “pissis girls”: Categorisation in a social media video

2015

In Finland, a social category called “pissis girls” has evolved into a cultural concept, used widely in various discourses concerning young women. In the paper, the empirical focus is on how, in the context of a viral video disseminated in social media, a group of young girls are presented as representatives of this category. The video, called ÄM IRK, is a short edited clip of an emergent interaction between young men and girls meeting by chance in a park. Drawing on the notions of membership categorisation, cluster of indexes and indexical field, “enoughness” and authentication, the paper investigates how the edited video, through the means of de- and recontextualisation of the emergent in…

Disciplinary contextualisation of transversal competence in Finnish local curricula : the case of multiliteracy, mathematics, and social studies

2020

Competence-based education is a widely implemented educational approach, but more research is needed into the relationship between transversal competences and individual disciplines. In this article, we present the results of a study focusing on how the transversal competence of multiliteracy is contextually defined in Finnish local curricula in the disciplines of mathematics and social studies. The article offers new insights into the discussion between content- and competence-based educations by introducing the concept of disciplinary contextualisation. Based on the qualitatively analysed data, four different types of disciplinary contextualisation are presented and further discussed. The…

La description du conditionnel français dans quatre grammaires finlandaises

2016

The present study aimed to explore whether the French grammar books produced in Finland between 1990 and 2015 show signs of contextualization in their description of the French conditional form. The research plan for the present study was inspired by the one used by the research program GRAC (Grammaire et contextualisation) that aims to discover the varieties of descriptions of the French grammar in different countries. Contextualization is understood as differences in relation to the standard French description of the French lan-guage. The grammar books studied in the present study are all in Finnish and are used by Finnish students learning French. Therefore it is expected that the common…

The activities the children participate in and the employees expressed attitudes and practices are part of different discourses, which give certain limits or possibilities for what is going on at the Hut, and thus influence a democratic practice. Especially children’s play activities represent an opposition to the adult’s framing of the place. Democracy presupposes some frames, but if t…
