A mixed FES/EMG system for real time analysis of muscular fatigue

International audience; In this article, we present a functional electrical stimulator allowing the extraction in real time of M-wave characteristics from resulting EMG recodings in order to quantify muscle fatigue. This system is composed of three parts. A Labview software managing the stimulation output and electromyogram (EMG) input signal, a hardware part amplifying the output and input signal and a link between the two previous parts which is made up from input/output module (NIdaq USB 6251). High-quality optical pulse train generator based on solitons on finite background

International audience; We report a simple method to exploit the typical properties of solitons on finite background in order to generate high repetition rate and high quality optical pulse trains. We take advantage of the nonlinear evolution of a modulated continuous wave towards localized structures upon a nonzero background wave in anomalous dispersive fiber. After a stage of nonlinear compression, a delay-line interferometer enables the annihilation of the finite background and simultaneously allows the repetition rate doubling of the pulse train.
Triple resonant four-wave mixing: A microwatt continuous-wave laser source in the vacuum ultraviolet region at 120 nm

We present a vacuum ultraviolet laser source by four-wave mixing in mercury vapour based on solid-state laser systems. Maximum powers of 6μW were achieved with an increase of four orders of magnitude in efficiency.

Although a number of different methods have been proposed to assess the time to stabilization (TTS), none is reliable in every axis and no tests of this type have been carried out on children. The purpose of this study was thus to develop a new computational method to obtain TTS using a time-scale (frequency) approach [i.e. continuous wavelet transformation (WAV)] in children. Thirty normally-developed children (mean age 10.16 years, SD = 1.52) participated in the study. Every participant performed 30 single-leg drop jump landings with the dominant lower limb (barefoot) on a force plate from three different heights (15cm, 20cm and 25cm). In this paper, the surface profiles generated in longitudinal turning operations were characterized using continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and normalized fractal dimension Dn. In the comparative analysis, some characteristic roughness profiles after the turning of different workpiece materials, such as C45 medium carbon steel, nodular cast iron and hardened (55 HRC) high-strength alloy steel were selected. For wavelet characterization, both Morlet and ‘Mexican hat’ analyzing wavelets, which allow the assessment of extrema and frequency distribution, were utilized. Design and realization of a portable multichannel continuous wave fNIRS

A design and implementation of a portable functional Near InfraRed Spectroscopy embedded system prototype is described. In this theoretical and experimental work, we present an embedded system hosting 64 LED sources and 128 Silicon PhotoMultiplier detectors (SiPM). The elementary part of the structure is a flexible probe “leaf” consisting of 16 SiPMs, 4 couples of LEDs, each operating at two wavelengths, and a temperature sensor. The hardware system is based on an ARM main microcontroller that allows to perform both the switching time of LEDs and the acquisition of the SiPM outputs. Spiking dynamics of frequency up-converted field generated in continuous-wave excited rubidium vapours

We report on spiking dynamics of frequency up-converted emission at 420 nm generated on the 6P3/2-5S1/2 transition in Rb vapour two-photon excited to the 5D5/2 level with laser light at 780 and 776 nm. The spike duration is less than the natural lifetime of any excited level involved in the interaction with both continuous and pulsed pump radiation. The spikes at 420 nm are attributed to temporal properties of the directional emission at 5.23 {\mu}m generated on the population inverted 5D5/2-6P3/2 transition. Polychromatic, continuous-wave mirrorless lasing from monochromatic pumping of cesium vapor

We report on studies of simultaneous continuous-wave mirrorless lasing on multiple optical transitions, realized by pumping hot cesium vapor with laser light resonant with the 6$S_{1/2}\rightarrow 8$P$_{3/2}$ transition. The multiplicity of decay paths for the excited atoms to their ground state is responsible for the emergence of lasing in a number of transitions, observed here in at least seven wavelengths in the infrared (IR), and at two wavelengths in the blue. We study the properties of the fields generated in the cesium vapor, such as optical power, directionality and optical linewidth.

A new type of ECR ion source—a gasdynamic ECR ion source—has been recently developed at the Institute of Applied Physics. The main advantages of such device are extremely high ion beam current with a current density up to 600–700 emA/cm2 in combination with low emittance, i.e., normalized RMS emittance below 0.1 π mm mrad. Previous investigations were carried out in pulsed operation with 37.5 or 75 GHz gyrotron radiation with power up to 100 kW at SMIS 37 experimental facility. The present work demonstrates the first experience of operating the gasdynamic ECR ion source in CW mode. Ultrasonic detection by photo-EMF sensor and by wideband air-coupled transducer

Two non-contact remote ultrasonic detection systems are compared. The first consists of a continuous wave (CW) Nd:YVO4 laser operating at 532 nm used in conjunction with a photo-induced electromotive-force (EMF) sensor. The second system employs an air-coupled capacitance transducer that has a bandwidth from 100 kHz up to 2 MHz. Both systems exhibit higher sensitivity to out-of-plane than in-plane measurements of stress wave signals. Ultrasound generation is carried out by an Nd:YAG pulsed laser at 532 nm in the thermoelastic regime in a 1.6 mm aluminum plate.
