Microcantilevers were first introduced as imaging probes in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) due to their extremely high sensitivity in measuring surface forces. The versatility of these probes, however, allows the sensing and measurement of a host of mechanical properties of various materials. Sensor parameters such as resonance frequency, quality factor, amplitude of vibration and bending due to a differential stress can all be simultaneously determined for a cantilever. It is proved that the Menger universal curve M admits a continuous decomposition into pseudo-arcs with the quotient space homeomorphic to M. Wilson proved [8] Anderson's announcement [1] saying that for any Peano continuum X the Menger universal curve M admits a continuous decomposition into homeomorphic copies of M such that the quotient space is homeomorphic to X. Mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in chalcogenide and telluride fibers for sensor devices

This thesis reports on the progress made during my PhD concerning supercontinuum generation and its application in two types of materials: chalcogenide and tellurite glasses. Concerning the chalcogenide axis, two new arsenic-free compositions are developed: Ge20Se60Te20 and Ge20Se70Te10. Thermal and optical properties of these two glasses are studied and two types of fibers are manufactured: a step-index fiber and a suspended core fiber. The generation of supercontinuum in these two fibres, pumped by an optical parametric amplifier, gives competitive results compared to the current state of the art of supercontinuum generation in chalcogenide fibres. In this review, we briefly summarize some of Professor K.R. Rajagopal's contributions to the field of cardiovascular mechanics and highlight some applications that have employed his theories and have expanded the ability to model the complex behaviors that characterize biological tissues. His contributions, spawning directly from the classical nonlinear theories of mechanics, have had general impact in diverse fields of engineering. Anharmonic vibrational frequency calculations for solvated molecules in the B3LYP Kohn–Sham basis set limit

Abstract The solvent dependence of harmonic and anharmonic vibrational wavenumbers of water, formaldehyde and formamide was studied using the B3LYP method. The results obtained with the hierarchy of Jensen's polarization-consistent basis sets were fitted with two-parameter formula toward the B3LYP Kohn–Sham complete basis set (CBS) limit. Anharmonic corrections have been obtained by a second order perturbation treatment (VPT2) and vibrational configuration interaction (VCI) method. The solvent environment was treated according to the self-consistent reaction field polarizable continuum model (SCRF PCM) approach.
Detailed study of SNR G306.3–0.9 using XMM-Newton and Chandra observations

Aims. We aim to study the spatial distribution of the physical and chemical properties of the X-ray emitting plasma of the supernova remnant (SNR) G306.3-0.9 in detail to obtain constraints on its ionization stage, the progenitor supernova explosion, and the age of the remnant. Methods. We used combined data from XMM-Newton and Chandra observatories to study the X-ray morphology of G306.3-0.9 in detail. A spatially resolved spectral analysis was used to obtain physical and geometrical parameters of different regions of the remnant. Musical pitch quantization as an eigenvalue problem

How can discrete pitches and chords emerge from the continuum of sound? Using a quantum cognition model of tonal music, we prove that the associated Schrödinger equation in Fourier space is invariant under continuous pitch transpositions. However, this symmetry is broken in the case of transpositions of chords, entailing a discrete cyclic group as transposition symmetry. Our research relates quantum mechanics with music and is consistent with music theory and seminal insights by Hermann von Helmholtz.

Abstract Reflectance spectroscopy provides an alternate method to non-destructively characterize key soil properties. Different approaches, including chemometrics techniques or specific absorption features, have been proposed to estimate soil properties from visible and near-infrared (VNIR, 400-1200 nm) and shortwave infrared (SWIR, 1200-2500 nm) reflectance domains.
