EP755 Laparoscopically modified laterally extended endopelvic resection for gynecological malignancies involving pelvic side wall: a feasibility anal…

2019

Introduction/Background Lateral pelvic side wall involvement by gynecological malignancies has been considered for a long time an absolute contraindication to curative resection. Recently the surgical paradigm is challenged with the development of the Laterally Extended Endopelvic Resection, LEER. Although the LEER is perfectly standardized in open surgery, just one small experience has been published about its endoscopic feasibility. The objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of Laparoscopically Modified Laterally Extended Endopelvic Resection, LM-LEER, in patients with gynecological malignancies involving the lateral pelvic side wall. Methodology We retrospectively evaluated…

Surgery vs. chemotherapy for ovarian cancer recurrence: what is the best treatment option

2020

Nowadays, the best treatment option for ovarian cancer recurrence is often subjective, can vary in the different centers and depend on personal experience. Arbeitsgemeinschaft Gynaekologische Onkologie (AGO)-DESKTOP studies have identified a population of patients who could benefit from secondary surgery. The results of the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)-0213 study were recently published, which showed no advantage in terms of overall survival (OS) in patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent epithelial ovarian undergoing secondary cytoreductive surgery (SCS) compared to chemotherapy alone. Aim of this narrative review is to summarize the best aspects that can make ovarian cancer recurre…

Effects of mandibular advancement surgery on the temporomandibular joint and muscular and articular adaptive changes--a systematic review.

2016

The objective of this study was to assess the anatomical changes to the condyle and articular disc following mandibular advancement surgery, the adaptation of the masticatory muscles, and the improvement or worsening of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in patients with pre-existing disorders and those who developed them following surgery. Four databases were searched systematically: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Of the 544 articles initially selected, 219 were duplicates and a further 165 were excluded on the basis of their titles and abstracts. On reading the full text, 89 were excluded because they were of no interest and 43 because they did not meet the inclusion criteri…

Pancreatoduodenectomy with artery-first approach.

2019

"Artery-first approach" encompasses different aspects for the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer. It is a surgical technique or set of techniques which share in common the dissection of the main arterial vasculature involved in pancreatic cancer, before any irreversible surgical step is performed. On the other hand it represents the need for a meticulous dissection of the arterial planes and clearing of the retropancreatic tissue between the superior mesenteric artery, the common hepatic artery and portal vein in an attempt to achieve R0 resections. The recent expansion of this approach is based mainly on three factors: venous involvement should not be considered a contraindication for…

Could isotretinoin be a protective agent against COVID-19?: A dermatologist perspective.

2021

Being a "trending" unique treatment for moderate-to-severe acne, isotretinoin (13-cis retinoic acid) (ISO) is currently considered by experts the first line treatment even for mild acne, unless there is an absolute contraindication. ISO was identified, among other retinoids, to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication in Vero E6 cells. Shoemark et al.1.
