New potential bimodal imaging contrast agents based on DOTA-like and porphyrin macrocycles

A bifunctional chelator featuring (DO3A-AM)-Porphyrin units has been prepared. The high-field relaxivity of the Gd complex is similar to those of currently available contrast agents clearly showing that the first coordination sphere remains identical to the parent molecule [Gd(DO3A-AM)(H2O)], with one coordinated water molecule.

Microcinematographic Studies of Mycoplasma hominis Cells

Cells of two strains of Mycoplasma hominis growing in liquid medium on a glass surface were observed continuously, and cinematographic pictures were taken. Most of the observed structures showed reversible changes of their shape, suggesting the presence of contractile material in membrane or cytoplasma. The frequency and speed of such variations were measured. The deformations seem to be related to multiplication. The mechanisms of these phenomena are unknown.
The great attractor and the COBE quadrupole

A nonlinear model for the Great Attractor is built. It is based on the Tolman-Bondi solution of the Einstein equations. The angular temperature distribution of the Cosmic Microwave Background produced by the Great Attractor is numerically obtained. Several realizations of the Great Attractor are studied. In all the cases, the distance from the Great Attractor to the Local Group is ≈ 43h−1 Mpc, the density contrast reduces to a half of the central value at a radius of 9h−1 Mpc ⪯ Rc ⪯ 14h−1 Mpc, and the dipole due to the infall towards the inhomogeneity center is 1.33 × 10−3 ⪯ D ⪯ 1.8 × 10−3. All-incoherent dispersion-compensated optical correlator

We report on a simple, spatially incoherent, wavelength-independent imaging system that, in contrast to the conventional case, exhibits a dispersion-compensated point-spread function. Our hybrid (diffractive-refractive) three-lens imaging configuration thus acts as an all-incoherent dispersion-compensated optical irradiance correlator. So the optical arrangement is well adapted to processing color information (both spatially and temporally incoherent) under natural illumination.
Diluted Heisenberg Ferromagnets with Competing Ferro- and Antiferromagnetic Interactions: Evidence for a New Universality Class?

The site-diluted classical face-centered cubic (fee) Heisenberg model with exchange between nearest and (J nn > 0) next nearest (J nnn =-J nn /2) neighbors is studied by Monte Carlo simulations using the heatbath algorithm in conjunction with histogram reweighting techniques. Finite size scaling analysis suggests that the diluted system crosses over to a new type of critical behavior, different from that of the pure system, in contrast to the prediction of the Harris criterion. But this model possibly can explain related experimental findings in Eu x Sr 1-x S.
New- vs. chaotic- inflations

We show that "spiralized" models of new-inflation can be experimentally identified mostly by their positive spectral running in direct contrast with most chaotic-inflation models which have negative runnings typically in the range of $\mathcal{O}(10^{-4}-10^{-3})$.
Optical hysteresis in a semilinear photorefractive coherent oscillator

International audience; High contrast optical bistability is found experimentally in the pump-ratio dependences of the output intensity of a semilinear photorefractive coherent oscillator with two counterpropagating pump waves. The data are in qualitative agreement with the results of calculation.
Generation of radiative knots in a randomly pulsed protostellar jet. II. X-ray emission

Protostellar jets are known to emit in a wide range of bands, from radio to IR to optical bands, and to date also about ten X-ray emitting jets have been detected, with a rate of discovery of about one per year. We aim at investigating the mechanism leading to the X-ray emission detected in protostellar jets and at constraining the physical parameters that describe the jet/ambient interaction by comparing our model predictions with observations. We perform 2D axisymmetric hydrodynamic simulations of the interaction between a supersonic jet and the ambient.
