Rapid neural encoding of the contrast between native and nonnative speech in the alpha band

AbstractMore than half of the world’s population is multilingual, yet it is not known how the human brain encodes the perception of native vs. nonnative speech. To find out, we asked German native speakers to detect the onset of native and nonnative (English and Turkish) vowels in a roving standard stimulation. Using EEG, we show that nonnativeness is robustly registered by an increase in phase coherence in the alpha band (8-12 Hz), beginning as early as ∼100 ms after stimulus onset and lasting more than 200 ms. AbstractAu@Fe3O4 Janus particles (JPs) are heteroparticles with discrete domains defined by different materials. Their tunable composition and morphology confer multimodal and versatile capabilities for use as contrast agents and drug carriers in future medicine. Au@Fe3O4 JPs have colloidal properties and surface characteristics leading to interactions with proteins in biological fluids. The resulting protein adsorption layer (“protein corona”) critically affects their interaction with living matter. The value of T1-weighted sequences after intravenous administration of Gd-DTPA and of T2-weighted sequences was compared in 43 patients suspected of having scrotal abnormalities. T2-weighted sequences gave better demonstration of the tunica albuginea and better contrast between tumor and parenchyma. The two techniques were equally sensitive for demonstrating testicular tumors but orchitis was better demonstrated on the contrast enhanced sequences. Autora izvēlētā bakalaura darba tēma - “Kvalitātes nosacījumi kontrastmamogrāfijā pie krūts vēža izmeklējumiem”. Bakalaura darbs sastāv no ievada daļas, teorētiskās daļas, pētnieciskās daļas, secinājumiem un ieteikumiem. Bakalaura darbā apskatīta un analizēta literatūra par krūts dziedzera anatomiju un fizioloģiju, krūts dziedzeru onkopatoloģijām, kontrastmamogrāfijas izmeklējumiem, izmeklējumu artefaktiem un protokolu vadlīnijām. Darba autore izvirzīja darba mērķi: noskaidrot kontrastmamogrāfijas nozīmi krūts vēža diagnostikā. Kā pētniecības metode tika izmantota - kvalitatīvā kontentanalīze.
