Il reporting per segmenti nei settori del trasporto pubblico locale e della cura della salute. Esperienze a confronto.

2020

This paper examines issues of cost and revenue allocation that arise when segment reporting is carried out in local public transportation and healthcare companies. It also presents reports by segment schemes that can be used by companies operating in the aforementioned sectors. The research was carried out with the qualitative methods of participant observation and document analysis. this study focuses on the-oretical principles that have been derived from experiences carried out in the design and implementation of a segment reporting system in two companies operating in the public transportation and healthcare sectors. The analysis of the issues and solu-tions adopted by the companies obse…

Outsourcing information systems: A strategic partnership with risks

1993

Abstract As information processing and telecommunications technology increase in sophistication and complexity, organizations are finding it more difficult to manage their information systems (IS) for business success. Growing numbers are now sharing these responsibilities and risks with outsourcing vendors. American Standard, Eastman Kodak, General Dynamics, Metropolitan Life, and Young & Rubicam are prominent companies which have outsourced some or all of their IS activities. They are looking to gain competitive advantages by cutting costs and focusing internal resources on core activities. However, compromises in management control and data security, the potential of hidden costs, and th…

INNOVATIVE MASS-DAMPING-BASED APPROACHES FOR SEISMIC DESIGN OF TALL BUILDINGS

2021

Mass damping is a well known principle for the reduction of structural vibrations and applied in tall building design in a variety of configurations. With mass usually small (around 1% of building mass), the properly “tuned” mass damper (TMD) shows great effectiveness in reduc-ing wind vibrations, but minor advantages under earthquake excitations. The above limitation can be surpassed by utilizing relatively large mass TMD. For this pur-pose, two different solutions are here proposed. In both cases, the idea is to separate the building into two or more parts, thus allowing for a relative motion between them, and acti-vating the mass damping mechanism. In the first solution, the building is …

Cost consciousness: conceptual development from a management accounting perspective

2015

Purpose – This paper aims to take note of the need to better understand cost consciousness from a management accounting perspective and serves as an exploratory study striving to analyze how the notion has been addressed by management accounting scholars. Design/methodology/approach – This paper presents the findings of a thorough literature review identifying the drivers, interpretations, definitions and results which management accounting scholars have associated with cost consciousness. Findings – This paper has synthesized the definitions and interpretations by considering their conceptual broadness and the subjects that cost consciousness characterizes. In addition, various potential …

Deep learning model deploying on embedded skin cancer diagnostic device

2020

The number of research papers, where neural networks are applied in medical image analysis is growing. There is a proof that Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are able to differentiate skin cancer from nevi with greater accuracy than experienced specialists on average (sensitivity 82% and 73% accordingly).1 Team's latest research2 allows achieving even greater accuracy, by using specific narrow-band illumination. Nevertheless, the overall probability of early skin cancer detection depends on the availability of diagnostic tools. If screening tools will be available to a high number of general practices, the chance of disease detection will increase. The previous research3 shows that scala…

Motion-control techniques of today and tomorrow: a review and discussion of the challenges of controlled motion

2020

Motion-control technologies are at the core of multiple mechatronic products and applications. Wherever actuated motion takes place in machines and components, either position or force setting (or trajectory tracking), or even a combination of both, are demanded from the control system. In high-performance mechatronic systems, including micro- and/or nanoscale motion (such as data-storage devices, machine tools, manufacturing tools for electronics components, and industrial robots), the required specifications in motion performance, such as response/settling time and trajectory/settling accuracy, should be sufficiently achieved [1].

A Multi-Objective Design Approach for the c Chart Considering Taguchi Loss Function

2013

The present paper proposes a multi-objective design approach for the c chart, considering in the optimization process of the chart parameters both the statistical and the economic objectives. In particular, the minimization of the hourly total quality related costs is the considered objective to carry out the economic goal, whereas the statistical objective is reached by the minimization the out-of-control average run length of the chart. A mixed integer non-linear constrained mathematical model is formulated to solve the treated multi-objective optimization problem, whereas the Pareto optimal frontier is described by the e-constraint method. In order to show the employment of the proposed …

Design of the Biotechnological System for the Cultivation of a Polysaccharide-Producing Microorganism and Metabolites Separation

1970

This paper presents a design of the biotechnological system established for the cultivation of a polysaccharide-producing microorganism and the separation of the polysaccharide together with other metabolites. The strain used is a halophilic archaeon called Haloferax mediterranei (Mironescu et al., 2003). On designing the biotechnological system, some requirements are important: The recipients and the pipes must be resistant to the corrosion action of the cultivation substrate very rich in NaCl (125 to 150 g/l); A command and control system for pH, temperature and substrate and inoculum feeding is necessary; A system for monitoring dissolved oxygen and gases evacuated from the bioreactor (O…

No-Flow Temperature in Injection Molding Simulation

2010

Most injection molding simulation packages use the no-flow temperature (NFT) as a means of determining whether the polymer flows or is solid. The NFT is not well defined, and a standard method for measuring it does not exist. A sensitivity analysis of the filling stage has been carried out with two different packages [VISI Flow (Vero Software Limited, Gloucestershire, UK) and Moldflow (Autodesk, Inc., San Rafael, CA)] to estimate the influence of the NFT on the main processing parameters. The NFT has a large influence on the thickness of the frozen layer, but it does not appreciably affect the filling pressure. Because the NFT affects the frozen layer, an effect on the estimation of shrinka…

Differences in Chromatic Sensitivity Estimated Using Static and Dynamic Colour Stimuli

2017

Abstract The current study reports on a novel computerised colour vision test employing static and dynamic stimuli. The aim of the study was to assess if static and dynamic stimuli result in comparable chromatic discrimination thresholds when participant’s age is taken into account. Participants (n = 20) were 21 to 77 years old, had normal colour vision and no history of any eye disease. They all participated in two sessions estimating chromatic sensitivity with static and dynamic stimuli, respectively, with six directions in colour space varying either along the red-green (RG) or yellow- blue (YB) directions. We found no significant differences in chromatic thresholds along a tritan axis o…
