International audience; Neural networks trained over radiative transfer simulations constitute the basis of several operational algorithms to estimate canopy biophysical variables from satellite reflectance measurements. However, only little attention was paid to the training process which has a major impact on retrieval performances. This study focused on the several modalities of the training process within neural network estimation of LAI, FCOVER and FAPAR biophysical variables. Multi-Crop Green LAI Estimation with a New Simple Sentinel-2 LAI Index (SeLI)

The spatial quantification of green leaf area index (LAIgreen), the total green photosynthetically active leaf area per ground area, is a crucial biophysical variable for agroecosystem monitoring. The Sentinel-2 mission is with (1) a temporal resolution lower than a week, (2) a spatial resolution of up to 10 m, and (3) narrow bands in the red and red-edge region, a highly promising mission for agricultural monitoring. A simple modelling of crop water balance for agrometeorological applications

Abstract A simple agrometeorological model of crop water balance is presented. It aims at the best estimate possible of the water balance components with the simplest formulation and the minimum set of input data. The model works with a time step of one day and uses rainfall and the calculated evapotranspiration as the climatic inputs. Some soil and crop characteristics, such as the maximum available moisture and crop coefficients are required as input parameters. The model is tested using experimental data obtained on wheat and lucerne crops in the Paris region. The sensitivity of the model is discussed and some possible applications to rainfed crop management are presented.

Forecasts of forest responses to climate variability are governed by climate exposure and ecosystem sensitivity, but ecosystem model projections and process representations are under-constrained by data at multidecadal and longer timescales. Here, we assess ecosystem sensitivity to centennial-scale hydroclimate variability, by comparing dendroclimatic and pollen-inferred reconstructions of drought, forest composition and biomass for the last millennium with five ecosystem model simulations. Abstract Single point incremental forming (SPIF) is a promising forming process, yet not entirely accepted and implemented on industrial scale, due to several reasons, presented in the paper. The approach presented here develops an evaluation method for the degree of its industrial implementation. Several factors which will favor the industrial implementation of ASPIF are identified and their weights are hierarchized by means of AHP. To assess the robustness of the AHP, a sensitivity analysis was also presented. Furthermore, a fuzzy inference system was built, having as output the degree of industrial implementation of SPIF.

This research paper presents the first part of a comparative analysis of a novel self-contained electro-hydraulic cylinder with passive load-holding capability against a state of the art, valve-controlled actuation system that is typically used in load-carrying applications. The study is carried out on a single-boom crane with focus on the control design and motion performance analysis. Abstract This paper represents the second part of the work described in the paper with the title “Decision-making tool for moving from 3-axes to 5-axes CNC machine-tool”. The problem of using either 3 axes CNC machine-tools or 5 axes CNC machine tools was presented in the first part, together with a fuzzy logic based decision support tool. This time, an AHP approach is used in order to evaluate the decision of moving to a manufacturing process based upon 5 axes machine tools. Three variants were taken into consideration and analysed. The consistency of the proposed approach was evaluated and a sensitivity analysis was also introduced.

Automated handling of a natural fibrous object requires a method for acquiring the three-dimensional geometry of the object, because its dimensions cannot be known beforehand. This paper presents a method for calculating the three-dimensional reconstruction of a paper fibre on a microrobotic platform that contains two microscope cameras. The method is based on detecting curvature changes in the fibre centreline, and using them as the corresponding points between the different views of the images.
