The AD and ELENA orbit, trajectory and intensity measurement systems

This paper describes the new Antiproton Decelerator (AD) orbit measurement system and the Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) orbit, trajectory and intensity measurement system. The AD machine at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is presently being used to decelerate antiprotons from 3.57 GeV/c to 100 MeV/c for matter vs anti-matter comparative studies. The ELENA machine, presently under commissioning, has been designed to provide an extra deceleration stage down to 13.7 MeV/c. Surge instability in a distributed parameter radial compression system

Turbocompressor surge in a line with a long suction duct and plenum chamber is analysed using a distributed parameter propagation model which accounts for dynamic damping. The results, though obtained with simplifying assumptions, show very good agreement with experimental data.

The motion energy sensor has been shown to account for a wide range of physiological and psychophysical results in motion detection and discrimination studies. It has become established as the standard computational model for retinal movement sensing in the human visual system. Adaptation effects have been extensively studied in the psychophysical literature on motion perception, and play a crucial role in theoretical debates, but the current implementation of the energy sensor does not provide directly for modelling adaptation-induced changes in output. Ansatz independent solution of a soliton in a strong dispersion-management system

We introduce a theoretical approach to the study of propagation in systems with periodic strongmanagement dispersion. Our approach does not assume any ansatz about the form of the solution nor does it make use of any average procedure. We find an explicit solution for the pulse evolution in the fast dynamics regime ~distances smaller than the dispersion period!. We also establish the equation of motion governing the slow dynamics of an arbitrary pulse and prove that the pulse evolution is nonlinear and Hamiltonian. We solve this equation and find that a nonlinear solitonlike solution occurs self-consistently in the form of an asymptotic stationary eigenfunction of the Hamiltonian.

States of $ \rho$ B* $ \bar{{B}}^{{*}}_{}$ with J = 3 within the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations

We study the interaction of the a $\rho$ and $D^*$, $\bar D^*$ with spins aligned using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. We select a cluster of $D^* \bar D^*$, which is found to be bound in $I=0$ and can be associated to the X(3915), and let the $\rho$ meson orbit around the $D^*$ and $\bar D^*$. In this case we find an $I=1$ state with mass around 4340 MeV and narrow width of about 50 MeV. We also investigate the case with a cluster of $\rho D^*$ and let the $\bar D^*$ orbit around the system of the two states. The $\rho D^*$ cluster is also found to bind and leads to the $D^*_2(2460)$ state. The addition of the extra $\bar D^*$ produces further binding and we find,…

BACKGROUND FOR (μ-, e-) CONVERSION IN NUCLEI FROM MUON DECAY IN ORBIT

A reanalysis of the problem of μ- decay in orbit is done in order to estimate backgrounds for (μ-, e-) conversion. Some approximations are done in order to obtain a very simple formula for the decay rate close to the maximum electron energy. Comparison with more sophisticated approaches leads to differences in the results which cannot be easily interpreted in terms of the approximations which has been done so far. In view of the relevance of this reaction in the planning of (μ-, e-) conversion experiments we point out at the convenience of some independent accurate evaluation.

On the correlation between phase-locking modes and Vibrational Resonance in a neuronal model

International audience; We numerically and experimentally investigate the underlying mechanism leading to multiple resonances in the FitzHugh-Nagumo model driven by a bichromatic excitation. Using a FitzHugh-Nagumo circuit, we first analyze the number of spikes triggered by the system in response to a single sinusoidal wave forcing. We build an encoding diagram where different phase-locking modes are identified according to the amplitude and frequency of the sinusoidal excitation. Next, we consider the bichromatic driving which consists in a low frequency sinusoidal wave perturbed by an additive high frequency signal. High selective H-plane TE dual mode cavity filter design by using nonresonating nodes

The design of H-plane TE dual mode cavity filters using models containing nonresonating nodes is presented. From the models a coupling matrix is derived and decomposed into submatrices, each representing a subcircuit. A Temperature Dependent Non-Linear Inductor Model for a DC/DC Boost Converter

This paper is focused on the use of non-linear inductors in DC/DC switching converters, as well as their behaviour due to changes in current and temperature. The model of an inductor is set up on the basis of experimental data, which are automatically acquired by a virtual instrument; from those data, a polynomial curve describing the inductance variations is obtained. The analysis of the converter, performed by including the proposed model, is validated by experimental tests.
