Unconventional monetary policy reaction functions: evidence from the US
2020
Abstract We specify unconventional monetary policy reaction functions for the Fed using linear and nonlinear econometric frameworks. We find that nonstandard policy measures are largely driven by the dynamics of inflation and the output gap, with the effect being particularly strong during QE rounds. Moreover, we uncover the presence of asymmetry and regime dependence in central bank’s actions since the global financial crisis, especially concerning the response of the term spread and the shadow short rate to the growth rate of central bank reserves. From a policy perspective and given the lack of a systematic response of monetary policy to asset price growth in nonstandard times, our findi…
The impact of agricultural management on selected soil properties in citrus orchards in Eastern Spain: A comparison between conventional and organic …
2017
The agricultural management of citrus orchards is changing from flood irrigated managed orchards to drip irrigated organic managed orchards. Eastern Spain is the oldest and largest European producer of citrus, and is representative of the environmental changes triggered by innovations in orchard management. In order to determine the impact of land management on different soil quality parameters, twelve citrus orchards sites were selected with different land and irrigation management techniques. Soil samples were taken at two depths, 0-2. cm and 5-10. cm for studying soil quality parameters under the different treatments. Half of the studied orchards were organically managed and the other si…
A Split in The Middle East Financial System
2017
In the Middle East, it has been proven that religious and cultural particularities can have adecisive impact on the economic environment. In this way, has developed Islamic financial system,a counterpart to the conventional one, that is based on the principles of Shari’ah. A niched systemaccording to addressability but also to the degree of geographical spreading, Islamic financialsystem increases with higher rates than the conventional one. Although the financial market in thiscase is closely related to real market. Islamic and conventional systems resilience is similar. TheMiddle East economy seems ready to host in parallel both types, certainty that is proven by theUnited Arab Emirates, …
Tunneling junctions of the heavy-fermion superconductor UPd2Al3
1998
Abstract Tunneling spectroscopy on planar Giaever-type junctions is a powerful tool for the investigation of the superconducting state of metals. Since it is possible to prepare high-quality epitaxial thin films of the heavy-fermion compound UPd 2 Al 3 , this method can be used to examine the energy gap of this presumably unconventional superconductor. We prepared cross-junctions consisting of a UPd 2 Al 3 base electrode and a metal counter electrode (Au, Al or Ag). These small area contacts without artificial barriers have only low junction resistances and suffer from irreproducibility. On the other hand, on some of those junctions we observed BCS-like tunneling conductivity. In order to i…
Revisiting CD8 T-cell ‘Memory Inflation’: New Insights with Implications for Cytomegaloviruses as Vaccine Vectors
2020
Murine models of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection have revealed an exceptional kinetics of the immune response. After resolution of productive infection, transient contraction of the viral epitope-specific CD8 T-cell pool was found to be followed by a pool expansion specific for certain viral epitopes during non-productive &lsquo
Trade Liberalization, Female Labor Force Participation and Economic Growth
2008
This research argues that the interaction between international trade and female labor force participation has played a significant role in the process of development. The main concern of our study is to show how differences in per household capital stocks, via international specialization, affect household choice of female labor force participation and fertility, and how these decisions, in turn, feed back and affect the accumulation of capital. Interestingly, and in contrast to conventional wisdom, our theory suggests that specialization in female's comparative advantage sectors expands these sectors but hinders female labor force participation, while specialization in male's comparative …
Computertomographie der Atelektase
1987
After breathing pure oxygen, total atelectasis of one lung was produced in ten dogs; its development and regression was followed by CT and by conventional radiology. 30 seconds after cessation of ventilation, it was possible to show a rise in CT density of the atelectatic lung from -764 +/- 32 HU to -739 +/- 49 HU. The average time from the cessation of ventilation to total atelectasis averaged 5.5 +/- 1.1 minutes. The earliest sign on conventional radiographs was often seen after 30 seconds and usually after 60 seconds and consisted of mediastinal displacement. Extensive atelectasis regressed in only one out of six animals within one hour after resuming ventilation. The experimental method…
Metabolic Inflammation-Associated IL-17A Causes Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma
2016
Obesity increases hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risks via unknown mediators. We report that hepatic unconventional prefoldin RPB5 interactor (URI) couples nutrient surpluses to inflammation and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a common cause of HCC. URI-induced DNA damage in hepatocytes triggers inflammation via T helper 17 (Th17) lymphocytes and interleukin 17A (IL-17A). This induces white adipose tissue neutrophil infiltration mediating insulin resistance (IR) and fatty acid release, stored in liver as triglycerides, causing NASH. NASH and subsequently HCC are prevented by pharmacological suppression of Th17 cell differentiation, IL-17A blocking antibodies, and genetic ablation of t…
Pyridoxine dependent epilepsies: new therapeutical point of view
2017
Abstract Pyridoxine dependent epilepsies (PDEs) are rare autosomal recessive disorders with onset in neonatal period. Seizures are typically not responsive to conventional antiepileptic drugs, but they cease after parental pyridoxine administration. Atypical forms are characterized partly response to pyridoxine and a late onset of symptoms (up to the age of three years). Prevalence is variable and it has rarely been described. The genes involved in PDEs are the gene encoding for the Alpha-aminoadipic-semialdehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH7A1) and PROSC gene, which encodes a pyridoxal-5-phosphate binding protein. Mutations in the gene encoding for the pyridoxal-5′-phosphate oxidase enzyme (PNPO) a…
Relationships of growth factors, proinflammatory cytokines, and anti-inflammatory cytokines with long-term clinical results of autologous bone marrow…
2017
Aim The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis suggesting that the pre-intervention levels of proinflammatory cytokines, anti-inflammatory cytokines, and angiogenic growth factors predict the long-term clinical results of autologous bone marrow-derived mononuclear cell (ABMMC) transplantation in patients with primary ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Methods and results From 2003 to 2006, a total of 62 patients with primary STEMI were enrolled in an open randomized study registered under the title ESTABOMA. Patients were randomized into two groups: group 1 included patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and ABMMC transplantation (n = 28); group 2 compr…
