Klinische Manifestation der Lyme-Borreliose im Kindesalter

1989

We report on 4 children with different clinical manifestations of Lyme-Borreliosis. One patient presented with a stage 2 typical aseptic meningitis and 2 others with symptoms of Schonlein-Henoch purpura and rheumatic disease respectively. A further case had bilateral palsy of abducens nerve and unilateral palsy of trochlearis nerve which are described for the first time in Lyme-Borreliosis. Diagnosis was established by detection of specific antibodies to Borrelia in all patients. Differential diagnosis of these symptoms should include Lyme-Borreliosis.

A clinical staging model for bipolar disorder: longitudinal approach

2020

AbstractBipolar disorder (BD) has been identified as a life-course illness with different clinical manifestations from an at-risk to a late stage, supporting the assumption that it would benefit from a staging model. In a previous study, we used a clustering approach to stratify 224 patients with a diagnosis of BD into five clusters based on clinical characteristics, functioning, cognition, general health, and health-related quality of life. This study was design to test the construct validity of our previously developed k-means clustering model and to confirm its longitudinal validity over a span of 3 years. Of the 224 patients included at baseline who were used to develop our model, 129 (…

Wilms tumours diagnosed by routine physical examinations.

1988

Sir: The prognosis of stage I and -II Wilms tumours with favourable histology is good, reaching 97% (stage I) and 92% (stage II) 5 year disease-free survival rates [1]. With these figures in mind the question arises whether the overall prognosis of Wilms tumours could be improved by presymptomatic routine physical examinations in an attempt to avoid stage III to V primary diagnoses. In the Federal Republic of Germany six routine physical examinations (RPE) are offered to infants, and two additional ones to children between 12 and 48 months. The 1980-1987 German Wilms tumour study [1] listed 313 patients, 29 of whom (9%) were diagnosed by such routine examinations. As shown in Table 1, the R…

Spanish validation of the Empirically Developed Clinical Staging Model (EmDe-5) for patients with bipolar disorder

2021

Abstract Introduction Bipolar disorder (BD) has been reconceptualised as a progressive disorder that develops from mild to severe presentations. An empirical staging model – the Empirically Developed Clinical Staging Model for BD (EmDe-5) – was developed in a previous study. This study aims to further validate that model using a larger and more representative Spanish sample. Material and methods 183 BD outpatients were recruited at 11 sites in Spain. Assessment included clinical characteristics of the BD (number of hospitalisations, number of suicide attempts, comorbid personality disorders), physical health (BMI, metabolic syndrome, number of physical illnesses), cognition (SCIP), function…

A Classification Proposal for Peri-Implant Mucositis and Peri-Implantitis: A Critical Update

2015

Definitions of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis vary in the literature, and no clear criteria have been established for the diagnosis and treatment of such disorders. This study proposes a classification for peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis based on the severity of the disease, using a combination of peri-implant clinical and radiological parameters to classify severity into several stages (Stage 0A and 0B = peri-implant mucositis, and Stage I to IV = periimplantitis). Following a review of the literature on the subject and justification of the proposed peri-implant disease classification, the latter aims to facilitate professional communication and data collection for…

Assessment of Periodontal status in Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis : a retrospective, case-control study

2021

Background Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and periodontitis both represent chronic inflammatory disorders that share similar pathophysiological processes. However, very few studies have been done to address the link between the two diseases which remains poorly understood. The present study aimed to assess and compare the periodontal status in patients suffering from PsA and systemically healthy subjects to identify whether a possible association exists between PsA and periodontitis. Material and Methods Periodontal parameters – PI, BOP, mGI, PPD and CAL were recorded in 110 patients with PsA and 110 age- and gender-matched systemically healthy patients. Mean values of the periodontal parameters…

Calcium, iron and zinc uptakes by Caco-2 cells from white beans and effect of cooking

2006

White beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) have an interesting content of essential elements, calcium, iron and zinc, but they content also phytates, oxalates, proteins, polyyphenols and complex polysaccharides that are known to interact with minerals and to affect their bioavailability. The bioavailability of calcium, iron and zinc from raw and cooked white beans was estimated using their uptake by Caco-2 cells as the criteria. Previously, the mineral fraction (soluble or dialysable) to be added to the Caco-2 cell monolayer was selected. The results obtained show that cooking increases the Caco-2 cells' uptake percentages (calcium, 18.8 versus 3.6; iron, 33.7 versus 1.7; and zinc, 17.2 versus 2.1…

Aroma behaviour during steam cooking within a potato starch-based model matrix.

2012

To help understand the organoleptic qualities of steam cooked foods, the kinetics of aroma release during cooking in a potato starch based model matrix was studied. Behaviour of components having a major impact in potato flavour were studied using solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography (SPME-GC). Evolution of microstructure of potato starch model-matrix during steam cooking process was analyzed using environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). Both aroma compounds that are naturally present in starch matrix and those that were added were analyzed. Both the aroma compounds naturally presented and those added had different behaviour depending on their physico-chemical properti…

The clinical benefit of instituting a prospective clinical community-acquired respiratory virus surveillance program in allogeneic hematopoietic stem…

2019

Highlights • Rapid detection methods used as first diagnostic test for CARVs may delayed the start of antiviral therapy in a significant number of influenza and RSV cases. • Syndromic multiplex RT-PCR-based prospective clinical CARV survey in allo-HCT recipients translates into a lower mortality rate as compared to standard clinical practice based on RSV and influenza virus rapid detection test. • We found that donor/recipient HLA mismatch, CARV LRTD and high-risk ISI were also associated with higher mortality.
